A DAY IN THE LIFE: CLAIMS SPECIALIST

amantha Tan is a Senior Claims Specialist working at HUB International in Windsor. Seven years ago
she began her insurance career with HUB, the largest brokerage in Canada, in sales and servicing before
moving to claims. Samantha is also the Treasurer for the Windsor Essex County Insurance Brokers
Association and is highly involved in the HUB GIVES charity. This is a day in her life.

Wakes up and fires up the
Nespresso. A great cup of coffee
to kick start the day is a must!

Commutes to work while listening
to an audiobook, currently Eleanor
Oliphant is Completely Fine.

Arrives at the office to return emails, report new
claims and answer coworker questions on the
application of coverage in claims scenarios.

Speaks with a client to help them
understand the claims process. Advises
them on their responsibilities and what they
need to prepare for the adjuster's review.

Contacts an adjuster to advocate
for coverage on a claim where
the adjuster or insurer may have
overlooked some components.

11:30am

12:00pm

Delivers toiletry donations
provided by HUB employees to a
local women's shelter as part of a
HUB GIVES initiative.

Arrives at a lunch meeting for the Windsor & Essex
County Brokers Association. Upcoming events
like Meet the Underwriter Night are planned and a
charity is selected to receive the proceeds.

Meets with a HUB Account Manager to review common
claims their insured is reporting and brainstorms
suggestions to reduce claims frequency and severity.

Works on a large loss run for
a client by compiling financial
information with status updates.

review a large client's claims
reporting process and
handling with the insurer's
Claims Relationship
Manager. Discusses
problematic and large in
quantum claims.

5:00pm

7:00pm

Finishes up at the office
and heads to the gym for a
spin class.

Arrives home to cook and has dinner with her husband.
Shrimp with risotto and asparagus is a popular choice.
Then watches her favourite shows on HGTV.
