o answer your question, William Chan is
39. He was 38 when he won Young Broker
of the Year-impressive considering
where his career stands today.

Last July, William was appointed President of
BrokerTeam Insurance, a multi-language brokerage
of over 100 staff and producers. He joined three
years earlier as VP, Commercial Lines following
a 10-year stint with Pacific Insurance Brokers as
Commercial Lines Broker and Branch Manager.
"I started out with clients, so it was a total switch
opening new offices from the ground up. There was
so much to take care of and learn. It was just me the
first 6 months."
It's the third time I've had the opportunity to
interview William for this magazine. The first was
2017 when BrokerTeam won Brokerage of the
Year. William explained their strategy of investing
in producers, supporting them while they pursue
their goals, including leading their own teams.
"Running a franchise is a valid approach, but we're
doing something different. We invest in people and
genuine partnerships."
The second time I interviewed William was late
2018 following BrokerTeam's film festival for
the visually impaired. It was one of the coolest
corporate social responsibility initiatives I'd
experienced-the first inclusive screening of a
Chinese movie in Canada, with described audio
in both Cantonese and Mandarin. "We wanted to
bring communities together, whether the visually
impaired, Cantonese, Mandarin or Englishspeaking individuals, students, the general public-
we wanted to connect people through film so
everyone could share the same joy and sorrow on
screen, under the same roof."
