Getting the Most out of Job Fairs

ecruitment to the insurance industry is a focus
across the board. The whole industry is struggling
to attract talent, with an aging majority nearing
retirement, there's going to be a huge skills gap-
we've all heard it, we all know it.
The benefits job fairs pose-the energy, the attendance, the
drive, the excitement of rising talent looking to choose a career
path-are self-apparent. But it's less obvious how you can
maximize your return on investment for attending job fair both
on-site and post event.
Taking part in any event requires resources: a day out of the
office for staff who are already strapped for time, the expenses
required to set yourself apart from the crowd, and the mental
energy to plan it. So, the question remains-is it worth it? Short
answer: yes.
Here's how you can maximize the ROI on your job fair investment.
1. Create an Experience: Make it memorable onsite, do
something that aligns with your brand but also sets you apart
from the crowd. Change the seating arrangement, signage,
flip the standard booth process on its head so you remain
memorable in the days and weeks after.
2. Collect Information: This seems simple, but the more
formalized this process is, the better results you'll have. For
those that you've made a strong conversational connection
with, share your contact information, and get theirs. Take note
of those that you had great conversations with and make a
point of reaching out.
3. Personal Follow-Ups: Follow-up, whether it's via e-mail or
over the phone. The work of a job fair doesn't end when you
leave the event. Check-in with the contacts you've made, see
if they have any questions or are looking for more information
on their career direction, offer personal anecdotes about your
experience and keep in touch.
4. On-site Invitations: Make your brokerage a place of learning,
offer students who are curious to learn the inner workings of
insurance brokerages the opportunity to come onsite, co-op or
intern for a week or two and really experience the reality of the
job, introduce them to your team and show them what a great
career insurance is.
Right now, the insurance industry is a too well-kept secret-
there is magic behind the scenes-let's do our part to actively
demonstrate the benefits to our generations rising talent.
We have seen so much success from
attending insurance job fairs-it's
incredible. To this day, we've met
many of our current team members
through our job fair experiences-
whether it be onsite, word of mouth or
friends of friends following the event.
The ROI is easy for us to see-the
work we put into the job fair comes
back to us ten-fold.
