Frequency 1 means that it was always visited whereas frequency
0 means never. It can be seen that all cooperative
algorithms result in more cells being visited and more frequently.
The algorithms performing best in this aspect are
the full optimization and the clever split algorithms.
Further performance metrics for characterizing the
search performance of the algorithms can be found in
[11], for example: time spent on search tasks. Additionally,
the number and size of search tasks could also be
optimized, as also proposed in [11].
RADAR LOAD ANALYSIS
Figures 6 and 7 show the achieved radar load for each AC
by each sensor management algorithm averaged over all
Monte Carlo runs.
Therein, it can be seen that all algorithms that use optimal
task assignment (except for the El. split) result in fully
exploiting the radar resources. The El. split algorithms
suffer in this aspect due to the geometry of the problem:
beams that cover the upper cells would only be used for
tracking targets at extremely high altitude, which is not
the case here. Therefore, most of the tracking load needs
to be taken over by a single AC, the one looking at the
lower cells.

As a side note, we would like to point out that the load
among AC tends to be balanced. Nevertheless, most algorithms
result in assigning more cells to one AC and more
tracks to the other AC. On the other hand, the full optimization
algorithms balance the search and track load among
the two AC. This imbalance between the two AC regarding
search and tracking tasks could also be an artefact of
the selected solver and could be investigated further.
TASK ASSIGNMENT ANALYSIS
Figure 8 shows the number of search cell remaining unassigned
by each sensor management algorithm averaged
over all Monte Carlo runs. Figure 9 shows the number of
tracks remaining unassigned by each sensor management
algorithm averaged over all Monte Carlo runs. In these figures,
it can be seen that all cooperative algorithms result in
fewer unassigned search and tracking tasks when compared
with single ac algorithms.
Moreover, by comparing Figures 8 and 9, it can be
noticed that all algorithms focus at the beginning on
search tasks, but as more targets are detected the resources
are focused on tracking. Therefore, as the scenario
evolves, the number ofunassigned search tasks increases.
