pairs including the reference code. The curves, again, corroborates the tightness between the synthesized and theoretical signals.
Table 5 summarizes the Doppler straddle loss values
(denoted with Ad and As for devised and for synthesized
waveforms, respectively) considering Doppler shifts of 2,
4, 6, 8, and 10 KHz. For the case at hand, such frequency
values corresponds to radial velocities of about 1150,
2290, 3440, 4590, and 5740 Km/h, respectively (i.e., from
Mach 1 up to Mach 4). Comparing the obtained Doppler
straddle losses with those of the reference code (about
0.27, 1.13, 2.75, 5.70, and 14.47), the following considerations can be drawn:
 for any ðSIR; Þ pair, the Doppler straddle loss of the
theoretical and synthesized signals is almost the same;
 the reference code exhibits the narrower mainlobe
of the Doppler response among all the analyzed
waveforms;

 for any ðSIR; fd Þ pair, the Doppler straddle loss
reduces as the similarity parameter value increases.

CONCLUSION
Practical implementation of radar waveforms ensuring
spectral compatibility with overlaid radiators has been
considered in this article. An appropriate hardware-inthe-loop architecture has been devised to emulate the
perception-action cycle necessary for a reactive spectrum allocation based on measurements performed via
a spectrum sensing module. The theoretical radar signal obtained via the algorithm in [23] and complying
with the spectral constraints necessary for spectral
coexistence, has been synthesized via a modern digital
AWG.
Then, a SA and a DO have been used to measure the
spectral characteristics and the temporal behavior of the
