S. Kuh, Linear and Nonlinear Circuits [14] with his most
kind note shown above. I am his former student, but he
said "my friend Steve" as shown in Fig. 5. I was much
honored by his kindness and was reminded of the day
of leaving Berkeley in 1975. Leon said then, "From now
on you can call me 'Leon'." Leon, his wife Diana and their
four daughters have become our bigger family. My personal wish has been to be able to help my own students
and colleagues in a way similar to what Leon has done
throughout his career.
Sung-Mo "Steve" Kang is a Distinguished
Chair Professor of the Jack Baskin School
of Engineering, UC Santa Cruz, and Chancellor Emeritus of UC Merced and President Emeritus of KAIST. He received his
B.S. degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, New Jersey in 1970, the M.S. degree from
the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1972, and the
Ph.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley

from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2014. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Karlsruhe in 1997, the
Technical University of Munich in 1998, KAIST in 2003, and
the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne in
1989, 2006 and 2012. Dr. Kang is a Fellow of the IEEE, the
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the
American Association for the Advancement of Science
(AAAS). He has served on the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea,
the international advisory board of the Ministry of Education of Singapore, the executive board of directors of the
King Abdullah International Medical Center, Saudi Arabia
