Collective behaviors in multi-agent systems (MASs) is one of the most ubiquitous phenomena
in the natural world, which often exhibit through social interactions among their agents. It is very
important to understand the theoretical mechanisms at the basis of different collective behaviors.
Therefore, various techniques and methods have been developed and investigated against this
issue over the last decades. In this paper, we concentrate on several models of collective behaviors in bird flocks, a representative kind of MAS. Moreover, this article aims at providing a discussion of various facets of this interdisciplinary field, including simulation models, mathematical
methods and control theory. The purposes are to offer readers a better understanding of complex
systems and to promote this emerging topic on MASs.

Simultaneous Inductive Power and Data Transmission
System for Smart Applications
Martin Trautmann, Benedikt Sanftl, Robert Weigel, and Alexander Koelpin

Inductive power transfer (IPT) development is a big issue amongst the scientific community but
there are only few solutions for communication between the primary and secondary side. This article
presents a completely contactless near field system, which can provide power and data simultaneously using one common inductive power link. In this novel approach both transmission channels
are designed collaboratively to maximize their performance. Based on these joint system specifications, the requirements for each system are derived, analyzed, simulated and measured. From this
measurement the performance of the system is classified. To verify the joint specifications, the mutual
interferences are evaluated and the system is compared to the state of the art. As a result, a prototype, which can provide 20 W of power with a simultaneous data transfer of 461 kbit/s, is presented.
With tested bit error rates smaller than 10-6, this communication link is a fully classified robust and
reliable data link for IPT applications.

Database-Assisted Spectrum Prediction in 5G Networks
and Beyond: A Review and Future Challenges
Marko Höyhtyä, Aarne Mämmelä, Alessandro Chiumento, Sofie Pollin,
Martti Forsell, and Danijela Cabric

This article surveys the state of the art in spectrum prediction and learning, summarizes applications, techniques, main metrics, computational complexity, and provides practical examples. We
focus on a cellular case study and define required improvements to database-assisted spectrum
sharing. The use of history information and predictive spectrum modeling at different time scales
provides valuable information to regulators, operators, and users of dynamic spectrum access
networks. Prediction enables dynamic spectrum sharing systems to operate proactively, and
consequently improves the performance in terms of reducing delays and interference among
coexisting systems. Current database-assisted spectrum sharing concepts are in fact too static
for many applications. Our numerical results on local-aware predictive spectrum allocation show
the advantage of predictive operation in a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) scenario.
