The third lecture of the forum titled "AI: What Makes it Hard and Fun!" was given by Dr. Pradeep Dubey who is Intel Senior Fellow and director at Intel Labs. Dr. Dubey stated that AI is driving a virtuous cycle of compute resulting into the unprecedented confluence 48 October 23 October 25 IEEE CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS MAGAZINE of massive data with massive compute. This coupled with recent algorithmic breakthroughs brings the AI community at the cusp of a major transformation, he argued. This transformation has the potential to disrupt a long-held balance between humans and machine where all forms of number crunching is left to computers, and most forms of decision-making is left to us humans. Dr. Dubey discussed some of the application-level opportunities and system-level challenges that lie at the heart of this intersection of traditional high-performance computing with emerging data-intensive computing. Overall the event was a great success for the CAS society and the local sponsoring chapters. We hope to organize similar events in future. The slide presentations of the lectures are available at http://sites.ieee.org/ scv-cas/ under "Recent Events" and the event name.
