members-153 delegates registered in this modality,
most of them students. All in all, the total number of delegates registered for the virtual event was about 1.850
(about 64 percent larger than the average in the past 10
ISCAS); out of them, 976 were Full-Registrants.
The level of participation of the 1.850 registered delegates was heterogeneous according to ConFlux aggregated stats. Fig.1 shows the total number of attendees
per conference day-including the total on-line attendance to the Zoom sessions and the peak simultaneous concurrence (general and main track only). Fig. 2
shows the average number of delegates who attended
the conference sessions on-line (vertical axis) versus
the conference day (horizontal axis). These figures reveal a decrease in the audience throughout the conference days. The number of on-line attendees per
session was also relatively low, with a maximum of
some 180 for non-pre-recorded, live-only sessions and
of some 50 for the main track, pre-recorded sessions.
Of course, all numbers above must be complemented
with those corresponding to IEEE Xplore access during
Open Preview phase.
Overall, the total number of views according to Conflux statistics (all the visits made by a single attendee
are aggregated), during the conference days was up to
66.414, which ratios up to more than 10x larger than the
number of on-line participation. Just by way of illustration, the three keynote talks received 2104 views, while
the 15 overview lectures were viewed by 3256 delegates.
V. An Analysis From " The Day After " Standpoint
and the Experience From the Community
Although the overall impression from the community
about the platform was very positive, we observed that,
in many sessions of the general track, the audience was
mainly dominated by students and young professionals,
while there was a less apparent participation by seniors.
We also observed fragmentation of the community relative to content view, making us wonder that delegates
only focused in sessions under their specific research
field, thus reducing the chance for cross-fertilization between different disciplines.
The platform included networking functions that
were not fully utilized by the community. Definitively,
there is room for improvement and mobilization on this
matter in potential new virtual conferences. In particular, there were very few ad-hoc networking activities.
The initiative to extend participation to all coauthors, one in which we intended to trade-off risk
and gain, resulted in an overall net increase of the
participation base, but such increment was below
our expectations.
