The closing workshop of the IEEE CASS Rio Tour was
held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)
on August 5, and at this time, the IEEE CASS Rio Chapter
cooperates with the IEEE CASS Rio Grande do Sul (RS)
Chapter by live streaming the 2022 IEEE CASS RS Webinar
[1] of Prof. Volkan Kursun, which had the participation of
virtual and in-person audience. Then, the UFRJ workshop
was composed of the following invited talks (Fig. 4):
■ Prof. Volkan Kursun (Norwegian University of
Science and Technology), live streaming from 1:30
to 2:30 PM, " Ultimate Field-Effect Transistors with
3D Stacked Nanowires " .
■ Prof. Ricardo Reis, from 2:30 to 3:15 PM, Optimization
is a Keyword in NanoCMOS.
■ Profa. Fernanda D. V. R. Oliveira (Federal University
of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), CMOS Image Sensors
and Focal-Plane Processing, from 3:15 to 4:00 PM.
■ Prof. Ricardo Reis, from 4:00 to 4:45 PM, IEEE Circuits
and System Society, Opportunities for International
Insertion.

In all workshops there was a space for questions &
answers and a coffee-break at the final of the event in
order to increase audience networking. The IEEE CASS
Rio Tour featured 52 participants (29 student and 23
professionals).

thoughts on new research, enhancing strategic intelligence,
and seeking opportunities through effective platforms
addressing social, environmental, technological,
and industry challenges. I also participated in other WEF
meetings held in China and United Arab Emirates. WEF
activities were very enlightening and intellectually rewarding.
My participation in panels organized by editors
of Nature with heads of NSF in U.S. and similar organizations
in other countries was fondly memorable. In terms
of providing lasting impacts, I think being the second
SECOND QUARTER 2023
Chancellor of the University of California, Merced in its
early years and being the 15th President of KAIST stand
out, for which I am grateful for being trusted to assume
and carry out the heavy duties. I am immensely proud of
the achievements of my own former students who have
become leaders in higher education as president and distinguished
professors, leaders in industry as high-tech
startup founders, senior vice president and research directors
of globally leading companies, and venture capitalists
for high-tech startups in Silicon Valley.
