IEEE CASS Tour Mexico 2022
Abstract
The IEEE CASS Tour Mexico 2022 was organized from November
5 to December 2, visiting 4 cities in one week, Mexico City,
Guadalajara, Puebla, and Veracruz. The tour included technical
talks, as well a special talk about the IEEE CASS and opportunities
provided by the society. The main goal of the CASS Tour
was to motivate professionals and students in Mexico to become
active members of the society, as well to motivate professionals
and students to organize new CASS Chapters and CASS
Student Chapters.

he IEEE CASS Tour Mexico 2022 was held from November
28th to December 2nd, with a set of talks
in Mexico City (November 28th), Guadalajara
(November 29th), Puebla (December 1st) and Veracruz
(December 2nd).
The set of talks included technical ones (see Figures
4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 for the full program in each location) as
well as a special talk about the IEEE Circuits and Systems
Society, presenting CASS activities such as conferences,
workshops, symposiums, seasonal schools,
publications, student design contests, the distinguished
lecturer program, pre-doctoral grants, student travel
grants, and talks promoted by chapters [1].
A main goal of the CASS Tour Mexico was to motivate
professionals and students in Mexico to be active members
of CASS, showing them the opportunities provided
by the society.
The tour started in Mexico City, on November 28th,
at the ESIME (Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica
y Eléctrica) of the IPN (Instituto Politécnico Nacional),
at Culhuacán.
The Program included 4 talks, the first one done by
Ricardo Reis, the second talk was done by Héctor Pérez
Meana, the third one by Roberto Murphy, and the fourth
talk was a presentation about CASS and opportunities,
done by Ricardo Reis. Figure 4 shows a flyer with the full
program at IPN. Some participants attended the event in

person and others were able to attend online, by Zoom,
and it was broadcasted on YouTube. The event was
recorded and available in YouTube at: www.youtube.
com/watch?v=LwWkSjKbyYw. The event had about 120
participants. The local organizer was Prof. Juan Carlos
Sánchez-García, chair of the CASS Chapter of the Mexico
Section. The picture of Figure 1 shows him and part of
the audience. Figure 2 was taken after the event, with
some of the participants.
The next day, November 29, the tour went to Guadalajara,
and it was divided in two parts, one in the morning
at the Universidad de Guadalajara and a second part
in the afternoon at ITESO (Instituto Tecnológico y de
Estudios Superiores de Occidente), the Universidad Jesuita
de Guadalajara. The event at the Universidad de
Guadalajara had the professor Marco Antonio Gurrola
Navarro as the local organizer. The morning program at
the Universidad de Guadalajara included 4 talks by Ricardo
Reis, Roberto Murphy and Ivan Pádilla (Figure 3).
The flyer with the full morning program at Guadalajara
is shown in Figure 5.
In the afternoon the tour was organized at ITESO, including
4 talks, by Ricardo Reis, Roberto Murphy and
Jesus Palomino from Intel R&D at Guadalajara. The local
organizer at ITESO was Esteban Martínez Guerrero. The
afternoon program at Guadalajara is shown in Figure 6.
The third part of the CASS Tour was organized in the
city of Puebla, at INAOE, on December 1st, 2022. The
flyer with the full program at INAOE is shown in Figure 7.
The program included 5 talks, by Ricardo Reis (UFRGS),
Daniel Durini (INAOE), Víctor Rodolfo González Díaz
(BUAP, Mexico) and Mariano Aceves (INAOE, Mexico).
This last talk was a memorial of Edgar Sanchez-Sinencio,
one of the first heads of the Electronics Department
at INAOE, a great professor and CASS member, that
passed away in November 2020. Edgar was a recipient
of a Honoris Causa Doctorate by the INAOE in November
1995, where he worked for several years and was who
established the Microelectronics Laboratory. He also
got a large set of awards, mainly from IEEE.
The last part of the CASS Tour Mexico was organized
in Veracruz at the Universidad Veracruzana.
