wide variety of computational intelligence approaches. We have been dealing
with challenges of data volume, velocity
and variety and struggling with unstructured data for years. The emergence of
the Big Data and Data Science provides
new stimulus and potentially new perspectives to our research and practice.
CIS is a natural home for everyone who
is interested in tackling challenges of the
Big Data and Data Science.
To support and promote activities in
these areas, CIS has recently expanded
its Data Mining Technical Committee
to Data Mining and Big Data Analytics
Technical Committee (http://cis.ieee.
org/data-mining-tc.html). It has set up
two specialist Task Forces: one in Data
Science and Advanced Analytics, and
the other in Big Data to promote the
activities related to the Big Data. It
runs the IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence for Big Data
(CIBD) and, from 2015, the IEEE
International Conference on Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA).
It has published several special issues in
its world-leading journals focusing on
related topics, e.g., the Special Issue of
the IEEE Computational Intelligence
Magazine on "Big Data" in August
2014, the Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning
Systems Learning in "Nonstationary and
Evolving Environments" in January
2014, and upcoming special issues of
IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine on "New Trends of Learning in
Computational Intelligence" and of
IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games (T-CIAIG) on
"Game Data Mining and Player Behavior Analysis Using in-Game Data". CIS
is also a cosponsor of the new IEEE
Transactions on Big Data.
