boost communication and provide recognition among women and young
professionals in the field of computational intelligence.
Amongst the social programs, the
main event was held on the evening of
27th July at the West Exhibit Hall A,
Vancouver Convention Centre, which
provided a lavish setting for the awards
banquet. Besides providing a great
occasion for all participants, distinguished guests, and speakers to bond

resource-constrained systems embedded
in physical objects interacting with the
environment through sensors and actuators." The CIS has organized its technical
committees (TCs) to address both the
development of the CIS technologies
and methodologies, and their promotion
in the various application fields. The
technological committees (Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems, Evolutionary
Computation, Emergent Technologies,
Cognitive and Developmental Systems,
Adaptive Dynamic Programming and
Reinforcement Learning) are focusing
on the development of the CIS core
technologies and methodologies. Other

over gourmet food and drinks, the banquet also allowed for the recognition
and celebration of researchers who
achieved outstanding success in the
field of computational intelligence.
During the ceremony, recognition was
given to the recipients of IEEE Frank
Rosenblatt Award, IEEE CIS Pioneer
Awards, IEEE CIS Meritorious Service
Awards, IEEE CIS Outstanding Paper
Awards, IEEE CIS Outstanding Chapter Awards, IEEE CIS Outstanding
PhD Dissertation Awards, IEEE CIS
Outstanding Early Career Awards,
IEEE Fellows, INNS Awards, INNS
Fellows, IEEE WCCI 2016 Best Regular Paper Awards and Best Student
Paper Awards, etc.
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude towards all individuals who
have contributed in making IEEE
WCCI 2016 a success in numerous
ways. Through this grueling yet rewarding journey, we have witnessed and
appreciate the unwavering devotion of
everyone, including members of the
organizing committee and student volunteers who have dedicated their time
and efforts in promoting and organizing
the congress. Special thanks are also
extended to all colleagues for their rigorous review of paper submissions,
which is vital for the quality of accepted
papers and the success of the congress.
We would also like to thank all the
authors' support in paper submissions
and presentations, and to all participants
in making IEEE WCCI 2016 a memorable event. We look forward to the next
successful edition of IEEE WCCI 2018
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Games, Intelligent Systems Applications,
and Smart World) focus on the promotion of CIS technologies and methodologies in various application domains, and
in understanding the challenges posed by
these applications to further enhance the
CIS core technologies. Each technical
committee has a few task forces to conduct focused technical activities. Under
the supervision of a technical committee,
task forces are responsible for activities
that promote the development and application of CI techniques in a focused area.
Typical examples of activities are: the
organization of symposia, workshops,
special sessions, competitions for the
IEEE CIS-sponsored technical meetings,
and special issues for the IEEE CIS-sponsored journals and the CI magazine.

The CIS welcomes and encourages
volunteerism from members including
students and graduate students. The
technical committees and their task
forces provide a good opportunity to
become an active participant in the CIS.
Currently, approximately 600 members
serve as volunteers on different committees. If you are interested in becoming a CIS volunteer, please contact Dr.
Hussein Abbass, CIS Vice President for
Technical Activities, or me.
Hoping to meet you during the year
ahead in one of our flagship conferences and as a CIS volunteer.
