t WCCI 2016, I attended a panel session on "How to publish
your research papers in IEEE CIS Transactions". I remember
that CEC 2013 had a similar panel session on "How to publish your research". First of all, it is crucial to write an excellent
paper. Secondly, it is important to choose an appropriate journal
that aligns with your topic. However, this is not always easy especially for young researchers. The CIM looks a good choice since its
scope covers all topics in the CI research field. It publishes position papers and surveys
as well as a wide variety of technical papers.You can submit any papers as long as they
are related to CI. The main problem is that only a small number of papers can be
accepted and published.
Since the CI research field is growing, its boundaries are not clear. Actually, it is
not always easy to decide whether a submitted paper is within the CI research field
or not. Many new research topics seem to be in its unclear boundary region. The
good news for those topics is that they can now be submitted to a new CIS journal:
IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence. The founding
Editor-in-Chief is Yew Soon Ong. He was one of our Associate Editors (see the
photo below). According to the journal's web page, it publishes original articles on
emerging aspects of CI. You may not be familiar with the concept of "emerging
aspects". Yew Soon will be able to delineate its boundaries. As you can imagine, it is
very difficult to put a new journal on a sustainable growth path. I believe that Yew
Soon and Jim Keller who is the new IEEE CIS Vice-President for Publications will
accomplish this challenging task together.
The current CIM issue was originally planned as a special issue on "Computational Forensics". Unfortunately, we did not receive enough submissions. Only a single special issue paper was accepted and included in the current CIM issue as the first
feature article. The second feature article and the review article were selected from
regular submissions. I hope you all will enjoy these articles.
