major CIS conferences: IJCNNCEC-FUZZY/WCCI and SSCI.
❏ This is the first time that IEEE SSCI has
organized a Doctoral Consortium (DC)
event, specifically targeting the Ph.D.
students in the CI field. With the financial support from CIS, a total of 24 doctoral students participated the DC event.
The Doctoral Consortium provided a
unique platform for the Ph.D. students
to present and share their doctoral
research, interact and network with
other students and senior fellows in our
society, a fundamental activity for their
future research and career development.
❏ IEEE SSCI 2014 has also taken a
new initiative to organize Plenary
Talks at the general conference level.
This year, three plenary talks were
delivered by world-renowned experts
covering all three key aspects of CI:
Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems, and
Evolutionary Computation:
*	Marios M. Polycarpou: "Sensor
Fault Diagnosis in Cyber-Physical
Systems"

*	Nikhil R. Pal: "Single Frame Super
Resolution: Gaussian Mixture
Regression and Fuzzy Rule-Based
Approaches"
*	Alice E. Smith: "Blast from the
Past-Revisiting Evolutionary
Strategies for the Design of Engineered Systems"
In addition to the Plenary Talks, IEEE
SSCI 2014 also featured 26 Keynote
Talks given by experts in the field, covering the latest developments in basic
research, technology and applications.
