Dr. Dasgupta is at the forefront of
research in applying bio-inspired
approaches to cyber defense, and served
as a program co-chair at the National
Cyber Leap Year Summit organized at
the request of the White House Office of
Science and Technology Directorate
(2009). Some of his groundbreaking
works, like digital immunity, negative
authentication, and cloud insurance
model, put his name in Computer World
Magazine and other News media. Prof.
Dasgupta has been an Advisory Board
member of Geospatial Data Center
(GDC), Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 2010, and worked on joint
research projects with MIT.
Dr. Dasgupta has more than 230 publications with 6175 citations and an
h-index of 51 as per Google scholar. He
received four Best Paper Awards at international conferences (1996, 2006, 2009,
and 2012) and two Best Runner-Up
Paper Awards (2013 and 2014): one from
ACM Information Security Curriculum
Development in October 2013, and the
other from ACM Cyber and Information
Security Research (CISR-9) Conference
at Oak Ridge, TN, April 2014. He is the
recipient of 2012 Willard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award, the highest distinction and most prestigious honor given to
a faculty member by the University of
Memphis. Prof. Dasgupta received the
2014 ACM SIGEVO Impact Award, and
was also designated as an ACM Distinguished Speaker.

Stefanos Kollias
has been a Professor in the School
of Electrical and
Computer Engineering, National
Technical University of Athens,
since 1997 and Director of the Intelligent
Systems, Content & Interaction (former-

Laboratory. He obtained his Diploma
from NTUA, his M.Sc. from University
of Manchester, England and his Ph.D. on
adaptive signal processing from NTUA.
As a Research Scientist at Columbia
University, NY, in 1987-1989, he performed high quality research on backpropagation learning algorithm variants
and on neural network applications in
image analysis. Since then, in NTUA, his
research, until 2000, focused on the field of
Intelligent Multimedia Systems, working
on novel schemes interweaving neural
networks with image/video analysis, coding and retrieval algorithms. Since 2001 he
has contributed to the fields of Human
Computer Interaction and Multimedia
Semantics. In the former, his research
refers to facial, gesture, multimodal, user
and context adaptive, analysis for emotion
recognition and to affective interaction,
particularly, with robots, in art and theater,
in car driving, in education and in serious
games, being a leader of the Humaine
Network of Excellence on Emotion
Research. In the latter field, his research
refers to visual semantic representation and
analysis, including MPEG-7 and local feature extraction and analysis, knowledge
alignment and query answering, having
also edited a significant book for Wiley.
Since 2007 he is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Neural
Network Society, while his research on
semantic interoperability for intelligent
content search has been greatly applied in
Digital Libraries and particularly in the
development of Europeana. He has supervised 35 Ph.D. students at NTUA, 12 of
which are academic staff in Greece,
Europe, and USA.

the School of Computer Science and
Electrical Engineering, University of
Queensland in 1996-99. He moved to
NTU in 1999. He is an editorial board
member of the Evolutionary Computation
Journal, MIT Press. He is an associate
editor of the IEEE Trans. on Cybernetics,
IEEE Trans on Evolutionary Computation,
Information Sciences (Elsevier), Pattern Recognition (Elsevier) and Int. J. of Swarm
Intelligence Research. He is a founding coeditor-in-chief of Swarm and Evolutionary
Computation, an Elsevier Journal. His coauthored SaDE paper (published in April
2009) won the "IEEE Trans. on Evolutionary Computation" Outstanding
Paper Award in 2012. Dr. Jane Jing Liang
(his former Ph.D. student) won the IEEE
CIS Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation
Award in 2014. IEEE CIS Singapore
Chapter won the Best Chapter Award in
Singapore in 2014 for its achievements in
2013 under his leadership. His research
interests include swarm and evolutionary
algorithms, pattern recognition, numerical optimization by population-based
algorithms and applications of swarm,
evolutionary & machine learning algorithms. His publications have been well
cited. For instance, his SCI indexed publications attracted over 1000 SCI citations
in each calendar year 2013 and 2014. He
served as the General Chair of the IEEE
SSCI 2013. He has been a member of
the IEEE (S'90-M'92-SM'00-F'15) since
1990 and an elected AdCom member of
the IEEE Computational Intelligence
Society (CIS) in 2014-2016.
