Communication Between Information
Systems Using Fuzzy Rough Sets, by

"The communication between information systems with fuzzy relations has
been studied in this paper. It is a basic
problem in granular computing. The
concept of homomorphism is a useful
mathematical tool to study this problem.
This paper discussed and investigated
some properties of communication
between information systems based on
fuzzy rough sets. The concepts of fuzzy
relation mappings between universes are
firstly proposed in order to construct a
fuzzy relation of one universe according
to the given fuzzy relation on the other
universe. Also, the notions of homomorphism of information systems based on
fuzzy rough sets are then proposed. It is
proved that properties of relation operations in the original information system
and structural features of the system,
including approximations of arbitrary
fuzzy sets and attribute reductions, are
guaranteed in its image system under the
condition of homomorphism. The results
show that some characteristics of a fuzzy
relation information system are guaranteed in its image system, which may have
potential applications in knowledge
reduction, decision making, and reasoning about data, especially for the case of
two information systems. These results
will also help in forming a systematic and
theoretic framework for information
granule communication analysis."

Preference-Inspired Coevolutionary
Algorithms for Many-Objective Optimization, by R. Wang, R. Purshouse

"This paper studies the simultaneous
optimization of many (more than 3)
objectives to support a posteriori decision
making. The authors coevolve a family of
decision-maker preferences along with a
population of candidate solutions. A preference-inspired coevolutionary algorithm
is proposed and simulation results are
compared with four of the best in-class
evolutionary algorithms. This new coevolutionary is competitive on bi-objective
problems and tends to outperform the
NSGA-II and MOEA/D algorithms as
the number of objectives increases."
Evolutionary Foundation of Bounded
Rationality in a Financial Market, by
K. Kinoshita, K. Suzuki and T.  Shimokawa, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, Vol. 17, No. 4,
August 2013, pp. 528-544.

"This paper provides a foundation for
decision making with bounded rationality
in economic entities from the viewpoint of
evolutionary theory.The authors conducted
an investment test with live participants to
construct a behavioral learning model.
Analysis showed the model exhibited
bounded rationality as well as some familiar
biases in decision making such as profit and
loss asymmetry in risk avoidance. Then,
using agent-based simulations, the authors
investigated whether the model could
become a stable strategy in market environments.Their results are antithetical to evolutionary explanations used in traditional economics suggesting many well-known biases
in decision making can be evolutionarily
derived from a single criterion."

Monte Carlo Tree Search for Collaboration
Control of Ghosts in Ms. Pac-Man, by

"Ms Pac-Man is a challenging game
that, for competition purposes, can be
played from the point of view of either the
Ms Pac-Man agent or the team of ghosts.
The 2011 IEEE CIG Ms Pac-Man versus
Ghosts Ghost Team competition was won
by the entry described in this paper. The
approach was to use a mix of rule-based
control and Monte-Carlo Tree Search to
achieve collaborative control of the ghost
team. The paper describes the entry in
detail and analyses how its behavior varies
with respect to a number of control
parameters and opponents."

Brain-Like Emergent Temporal Processing: Emergent Open States, by J.
Weng, M.D. Luciw, and Q. Zhang,
IEEE Transactions on Autonomous
Mental Development, Vol. 5, No. 2,
June 2013, pp. 89-116.

TAMD.2013.2258398
"Informed by brain anatomical studies, the authors present the developmental network (DN) theory on brain-like
temporal information processing. The
states of the brain are at its effector end,
emergent and open. A finite automaton
(FA) is considered an external symbolic
model of brain's temporal behaviors, but
the FA uses handcrafted states and is
without "internal" representations.
Using action-based state equivalence
and the emergent state representations,
the time driven processing of DN performs state-based abstraction and statebased skill transfer. Each state of DN, as
a set of actions, is openly observable by
the external environment (including
teachers). Thus, the external environment can teach the state at every frame
time. Two experiments are shown as
examples: visual recognition and text
language processing."
