A welcome dinner took place on
June 21 at a terrace that provided a
magnificent view of the beach.
On June 22 we had the Awards Banquet, which started with a prehispanic
ritual and a Mexican show that provided an example of the dancing traditions from various parts of México. At
the banquet we honored several outstanding individuals from Evolutionary
Computation and announced the Best
Paper awards for the conference. Recognized at the Awards Banquet were
Xin Yao (CIS Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award), Gary Yen (CIS
Meritorious Service Award) and Carlos
A. Coello Coello (IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu
Award). Also recognized were Adriana
Lara, Gustavo Sanchez, Carlos A. Coello
Coello and Oliver Schütze for their
paper "HCS: A New Local Search
Strategy for Memetic Multiobjective
Evolutionary Algorithms" (IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation Outstanding 2010 Paper Award).
I would like to thank everyone on
the Organizing Committee, in particular Arturo Hernández-Aguirre (Finance
Chair) for all his hard work and committment. I am also very thankful to all
our Chairs: Program, Technical, Tutorials, Special Sessions, Competitions, Proceedings, Posters Sessions, and Publicity.

membership, I am pleased that we can

As 2013 draws to a close and as my time
as the Editor-in-Chief for CIM concludes, I hope you have attained some, if
not all, of the goals you have set for
yourself at the beginning of the year,
with CIM as your constant quarterly
companion. I would also like to express
my greatest appreciation to everyone

who has contributed to the production
of this magazine, particularly Laura
Ambrosio, Jessica Barragué and Kheng
Im, for their tireless efforts and behindthe-scenes work for the magazine.
As sad as I am to relay my farewells, I
will continue to contribute to the IEEE
CIS community (so do drop by and say
hi if you see me). In particular, I will
serve as the General Co-Chair of IEEE
World Congress on Computational
Intelligence (WCCI 2016) from 25-29
July 2016 in Vancouver, Canada. I shall

be supporting with the handover of the
CIM to Hisao Ishibuchi, who will take
over as the Editor-in-Chief from the
next issue. I firmly believe that Hisao
and his team will bring CIM to new
and greater heights.
