Sansanee Auephanwiriyakul
received
the
B.Eng. (Hons.) degree
in electrical engineering
from the Chiang
Mai University, Thailand
(1993), the M.S.
degree in electrical and computer engineering
and Ph.D. degree in computer
engineering and computer science, both
from the University of Missouri-Columbia,
in 1996, and 2000, respectively. After
receiving her Ph.D. degree, she worked as
a post-doctoral fellow at the Computational
Intelligence Laboratory, University
of Missouri-Columbia. She is currently an
Associate Professor at the Department of
Computer Engineering and a deputy
director of the Biomedical Engineering
Institute, Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
Dr. Auephanwiriyakul is a senior
member of the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). She is
an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions
on Fuzzy System, the IEEE
Transactions on Neural Networks and
Learning Systems, IEEE Computational
Intelligence Magazine, IEEE Transactions
on Artificial Intelligence, Engineering
Applications of Artificial Intelligence, and
ECTI Transactions on Computer and
Information Technology. She was an
Editorial Board of several prominent
Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/MCI.2022.3155326

journals. She was a general chair of the
IEEE International Conference on
Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics
and Computational Biology
(CIBCB 2016). She was a Technical Program
Chair, Organizing Committee in
several major conferences including the
IEEE International, Conference Fuzzy
Systems. She is a member of several
important IEEE organizations, i.e.,
Women in Computational Intelligence,
Fuzzy System Technical Committee,
Bioinformatics and Bioengineering
Technical Committee, Data Mining and
Big Data Analytics, Distinguished Lecture
Program, Webinars, and Student
Activities. As a part of these committee
members, her job is to promote the
research, development, education, and
understanding of the technology, including
the creation of the theory and models
as well as their applications. She was a
member of IEEE P1855 Workgroup for
Fuzzy Markup Language Standardization
as well.
Her research interests include fuzzy
set theory, neural networks, medical
image processing, linguistic algorithm,
and computational Intelligence ap -
plications, especially in biomedical
engineering and robot navigation in
uncertain environment.

I am an Associate Professor in Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science, an
Adjunct Professor with the Sinclair

and a core faculty
member of the MU
Informatics Institute
at
the University of
Missouri (MU). I am
also the Director of
the Vision-Guided and Intelligent
Robotics Laboratory (ViGIR Lab). I
have been involved with the IEEE CIS
since 2009 by serving as: chair of eleven
SSCI Symposia; one of the founding
members of a local CIS Chapter; chair
and member of the CIS Senior Member
Subcommittee for three years; chair and
member of the CIS Student Activities
Subcommittee for four years; member
of the CIS Conference Bid Subcommittee

three years; member of the CIS Chapter
