from the German society of Computer
Science (GI) in 1995.
He currently serves as an Associate
Editor for the IEEE Transactions on
Evolutionary Computation and Artificial

on Evolutionary Learning and Optimization.
He is editorial board member of
the Natural Computing Journal, Journal
of Big Data, and Journal of Intelligent
Manufacturing. He was also
co-editor-in-chief of the Handbook of
Evolutionary Computation, co-editor
of the Handbook of Natural Computing,
author of Evolutionary Algorithms
in Theory and Practice (1996) and coauthor
of Contemporary Evolution
Strategies (2013).
Thomas has organized and cochaired
major international conferences,

Humberto Bustince
is a full professor of
Computer Science
and Artificial Intelligence
at
the Public
University of Navarra
in Spain and honorary
professor at the University of
Nottingham since 2017. He is the
main researcher of the Research
Group on Artificial Intelligence and
Approximate Reasoning, whose
research lines are both theoretical
(data fusion functions, information
and comparison measures, fuzzy sets
and their extensions) and applied
(Deep learning, image processing,
classification, machine learning, data
mining, big data or the computational
brain). He has led 13 research projects
funded by national and regional governments.
As well as in several privately
funded projects. He has
authored or coauthored more than
300 works, according to Web of Science,
including around 160 in Q1
journals. He was a highly cited
researcher among the top 1%most relevant
scientists in the world in 2018,
according to Clarivate Analytics. He
collaborates with first line research
groups from countries such as United
Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, the
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Canada or
Brasil. He is editor in chief of the
Mathware&Soft Computing online
magazine of the European Society of
Fuzzy Logic and Technologies and of
the Axioms journal. Associated editor
of the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy
Systems journal and member of the
editorial boards of the journals Fuzzy
Sets and Systems, Information Fusion,
International Journal of Computational
Intelligence Systems among
others. Moreover, he is a coauthor of
a book about averaging functions, and
has been the co-editor of several
books. He has been in charge of organizing
several first level international
conferences such as EUROFUSE
2009 and AGOP 2013. He is Fellow
of the International Fuzzy Systems
Association (IFSA). Member of the
Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts and
Literature, Jakiunde, since 2018 and of
the European Academy of Science
and Art since 2022.
He was awarded the Cross of Carlos
III the Noble by The Government of
Navarra in 2017, the Spanish National
Computer Science Prize José García
Santesmases in 2019 and the Scientific
Excellence Award of EUSFLAT the
same year.
Erik Cambria

Erik Cambria is the
Founder of SenticNet,
a Singaporebased
company
offering B2B sentiment
analysis services,
and an Associate
Professor at NTU, where he also holds
the appointment of Provost Chair in
Computer Science and Engineering.
Prior to joining NTU, he worked at
Microsoft Research Asia (Beijing)
and HP Labs India (Bangalore) and
earned his PhD through a joint programme
between the University of
Stirling and MIT Media Lab. He is
recipient of several awards, e.g., IEEE
Outstanding Early Career Award, was
listed among the AI's 10 to Watch,
and was featured in Forbes as one of
the 5 People Building Our AI Future.
He is Associate Editor of many toptier
AI journals, e.g., Information
Fusion and IEEE Transactions on
Affective Computing, and is involved
in various international conferences as
program chair, SPC member and
invited speaker. He and his team are
working on addressing the five key
problems of AI, namely: dependency,
reproducibility, trustworthiness, interpretability,
and explainability. In
particular, they are developing a commonsense-based
neurosymbolic AI
framework that aims to overcome
these issues in the context of affective
computing and sentiment analysis. The
framework is neurosymbolic because
it leverages both subsymbolic techniques,
such as auto-regressive language
models and kernel methods, and
symbolic
representations,
such as
semantic networks and semiotic
resources, to perform polarity detection
and emotion recognition from
multimodal data in different languages.
As a result, the proposed framework is:
unsupervised, because it does not
require training on labeled data and it
is domain-independent; reproducible,
