Dr. Wei Liu is an
internationally prestigious
scientist
in the field of AI.
Currently, Dr. Liu
worksasaDistinguished
Scientist
(Level-2) at Tencent
Holdings
Ltd., driving fundamental research and
technological development related to AI
in the biggest Internet company inChina.
Before joining Tencent in 2016, he
received his Ph.D. degree in electrical
engineering & computer science from
Columbia University, USA in 2012. He
was a research scientist and staff member
of IBM T. J. Watson Research Center,
USA from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Liu has long
been devoted to the cutting-edge research
in multiple core fields of AI, including
machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement
learning, computer vision,
information retrieval, and Big Data. He
has won numerous awards and honors
with his academic and technical achievements
in AI, such as the 2011 Facebook
Fellowship (one of five winners worldwide),
the 2012 IBMJosefRaviv Memorial
Postdoctoral Fellowship (the only
winner worldwide), the 2013Jury Award
for Best Thesis of Columbia University
(one of two winners), the 2018 IEEE
Intelligent Systems " AI's 10 To Watch "
Award (one of ten winners worldwide),
and so forth.
As ofnow, Dr. Liu has published more
than 280 peer-reviewed scholarly papers
and held 32 US patents. All his papers and
patents have been cited over 30,000 times
with an indexof90per Google Scholar.
His two papers " Discrete Collaborative
Filtering " and " Classification by Retrieval:
Binarizing Data and Classifiers " have
greatly advanced the field of learning to
hash and were awarded the ACM SIGIR
Best Paper Award Honorable Mentions
for two consecutive years 2016-2017. His
two other papers " Learning to Compose
Dynamic Tree Structures for Visual Contexts "
and " Image Deformation MetaNetworks
for One-Shot Learning " on
deep visual understanding were selected
into the IEEE CVPR 2019 Best Paper
Finalist.
Dr. Liu is a Fellow of the IEEE,

Ke Tang is a
Changjiang Professor
of Artificial
Intelligence (awarded
by the Ministry
ofEducation of
China) at theDepartment
of Computer
Science and
Engineering, Southern University of Science
and Technology (SUSTech). He
received the B.Eng. degree from Huazhong
University ofScience and Technology
(HUST), Wuhan, China, in 2002,
and the Ph.D. degree from Nanyang
Technological University (NTU), Singapore,
in 2007. Before joining SUSTech,
he was at the School ofComputer Science
and Technology, University of Science
and Technology ofChina (USTC),Hefei,
China, firstasanAssociate Professor
(2007-2011) and later as a Professor
(2011-2017).
He has broad interests in areas ofevolutionary
computation, machine learning,
and their applications. Currently, his
research is particularly dedicated to a new
data-driven paradigm for algorithm design,
termed Learn to Optimize. He has authored/co-authored
more than 200 papers,
including IEEE/ACM Transactions papers
and papers on top-tier AI conferences,
e.g., NeurIPS and IJCAI, and has given 32
invited talks at conferences and meetings.
He hasservedasthe AssociateEditoror
Editorial Board Member of several journals,
including IEEE Transactions on
Evolutionary Computation and IEEE
Computational Intelligence Magazine,
and as the General/PC/Technical
Chair of 17 international conferences/workshops,
including the IEEE
Congress on Evolutionary Computation
in 2010, 2013 and 2022.
In 2015, he received the Newton
Advanced Fellowship of Royal Society,
which is a fellowship offered to early
career group leaders in all disciplines ofscience
and engineering across the globe. By
August 29, 2016, only 2 ofthe 105 recipients
are from Computer Science. He also
received the 2018 IEEE Computational
Intelligence Society Outstanding Early
Career Award for his contribution to
novel evolutionary computation approach
for large-scale optimization. He has been
