able to achieve the best performance of all the
heuristic approaches, due to its strong support
of multiresolution. We also see that, in general,
the extended RP algorithms running on the basis
of RBG can outperform the one running on the
basis of RB, since the latter overlooks the multiple resolutions of clustered DFT-s-OFDM.
Furthermore, Figure 5 reveals the impact of
the distribution of users, cell size, and bandwidth on the performance of clustered DFT-sOFDM, respectively. In Figure 5 (a), a bias b is set
up and the distance from a user to the corresponding base station is randomly generated to
be R Â rb m. Here, R ¼ ISD=1:5 is the radius of
the cell and r is randomly and uniformly distributed between 0 and 1. Apparently, the larger b is,
the more closely the users are gathered to the
base station. As shown in Figure 5(a), clustered
DFT-s-OFDM is more effective in the case that
users are closer to the base station. Figure 5(b)
and (c) shows that the average sector throughputs decrease with the growth of the cell size,
and increase with the growth of bandwidth.

CONCLUSION

In this article, we discussed the flexibility
that clustered DFT-s-OFDM can achieve at the
PHY layer, and the requirements that it needs to
comply with at the MAC layer. A number of algorithms, which have the potential to leverage
both the flexibility and compliance, were discussed. Simulation results showed that a new
multiresolution clustered RP method is able to
balance the data rate of clustered DFT-s-OFDM
and computational complexity.
