GrowFruit: An IoT-Based Radial Growth Rate
MonitoringDevice forFruit: GrowFruit, an IoT-based
real-time growth rate monitoring device to measure
fruit or stemgrowth rate under openfieldconditions,
is designed and implemented in this
article. The system measures the fruit or stem
perimeter changes, yielding significant information
about the growth.
PLDD-A Deep Learning-Based Plant Leaf Disease
Detection: This article presents a transfer
learning-based optimized EfficientDet deep learning
framework as a practical solution for automated
plant disease detection. The proposed
model achieved an overall mean average precision
of 74.10% with a fewer number of parameters
and floating-point operations per second than
other state-of-the-art approaches.
An IoT-Based Smart Irrigation System: This article
presents an IoT framework called qToggle, a
system for interconnecting sensors, actuators,
and other data sources based on open-source
solutions and easily accessible components. An
innovative irrigation system is implemented as a
smart home application example.
State and Trends of IoT Security: Unequivocal
Appeal to Cybercriminals, Onerous to Defenders:
This article summarizes the state and latest developments
of IoT cybersecurity, elaborating on the
fundamentals of why IoT has an unequivocal to
cyberattacks and why it has been elusive and
onerous to secure it. The authors also include a
target-based taxonomy of the IoT attacks together
with a discussion of short-term and long-term
best-practice solutionmethodologies.
Secure and Resilient Artificial Intelligence of
Things: A HoneyNetApproach for Threat Detection
and Situational Awareness: This article proposes
a HoneyNet approach that includes both threat
detection and situational awareness to enhance
the security and resilience of Artificial Intelligence
of Things (AIoT), the future of Industry 4.0.
The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility
and effectiveness of the proposed solution.
SPECIAL SECTION: 18TH IEEE ANNUAL
SYMPOSIUMON VLSI (ISVLSI'20)
The Special Section is dedicated to the 18th
edition of the Annual Symposium on VLSI
(ISVLSI'20). The conference was hosted virtually
due to the unprecedented situation caused by
the COVID-19 pandemic. This Special Section
presents a selected set of articles related to the
MCE scope.
Revising NoC in Future Multi-Core-Based Consumer
Electronics for Performance: With the
increasing demand for efficient data processing,
the latest CE are powered by multicore processors.
This article aims to present a revised network-on-chip
communication framework that
can reduce the miss penalty.
Hardware Support for Efficient and Low-Power
Data Sorting in Massive Data Application: The 3D
Sorting Method: This article proposes an ultralow-power
3D sorting architecture based on a
multidimensional sorting algorithm. The results
indicate that ULP-Sorter is a suitable architecture
for edge computing devices with limited
power and area constraints.
Minimizing Off-Chip Memory Access for CNN
Accelerators: The energy efficiency of the convolution
neural network accelerators is of paramount
importance for battery-operated devices
like smartphones. This article proposes an
approach that factors in the architectural
parameters to evaluate memory access.
