Today's cars deliver an impressive variety of
innovative technology that enhances protection,
increases performance, and reduces environmental
impacts. This is done by increasing the usage
of electronics and software in automotive design
and production. However, the same features often
pose additional threats, including illegal access to
vehicle networks to retrieve driver data.
As cyber security risks have arisen, many
government transport departments have pursued
a research strategy focused on solutions
to toughen vehicles' electronic infrastructure
against possible cyber-attacks and ensure that
vehicle networks take effective, secure action
even if an assault is successful. A layered
approach to vehicle cyber defense decreases
the risk of an assault being successful and mitigates
the possible consequences of a successful
intrusion.
The progress of the ITS would guarantee the
creation of smart cities with respect to ease of
movement for people. Figure 1 shows the framework
of an ITS. To realize effective traffic control,
lessen congestion issues, optimize protection,
and allow the efficient use of accessible infrastructures,
these smart systems can be applied
in a broad variety of domains. There are several
typical stages in the creation of an ITS, namely
data processing, data transfer, data review, and
depending on all previous steps, the supply of
knowledge to passengers.

Information is collected via the use of hardware
equipment, such as sensors, detectors,
GPS, and self-locators, that embody any ITS
structure and that enable us to check the number
of vehicles, compute vehicle speed, weigh
vehicles, and operate surveillance. The
exchange of data inside an ITS framework is vital
to real-time operation. Data extracted from the
sensors or the Internet of Vehicle Things (IoVT)
is sent to the cloud hub, which processes the
data, extracts meaningful information or features,
and feeds back to ITS stakeholders, such
as drivers, traffic department, and government
organizations. Some information, such as the
level of traffic congestion and the distance
between vehicles can be sent directly to drivers.
The system can also predict alternative routes
and provide drivers with this knowledge.
However, a number of other details may be
relayed, such as the measurement of travel
times, average driving rates, deviations, collisions,
lane shifts, transient situations, etc. The
feedback can be sent via a variety of channels
such as telephone, SMS, air inference, dedicated
short-range communications (DSRC), or direct
contact with the car. Further, there should be an
uninterrupted network connection between the
stakeholders of the ITS.
IoVT and autonomous systems mean multiple
protection and safety problems, as can be seen
in the range of future threats on self-driving
