Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) are a type of network that has emerged with the aim of strengthening the available intelligent transportation systems. Enhancing overall security in VANETs should be a top priority as problems in these networks can put lives at risk. Various security frameworks and solutions including the use of intrusion detection systems (IDS) have been proposed in the literature by researchers across the globe. In this study, the various challenges and problems associated with IDS usage in VANETs are Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/MCE.2021.3138703 Date ofpublication 28 December 2021; date ofcurrent version 6 October 2022.
