Whenever a critical situation occurs, the CAV
may stop working and inform the consumer for
urgent security updates. An alarmwould be generated
by displaying information through the digital
screen in the form of digital labels on the dashboard
or mobile phones of the consumers to alert
the consumers for taking some appropriate
actions. Through the application module, the
health status of the CAV or SCAV will be displayed
using an interactive display on the dashboard
screen to the consumers. Different colors can be
used to display the cybersecurity health status of
the CAV, e.g., the green color bars can be used to
represent the fully updated and secured CAVs and
red can be used to indicate unsecured or not
updated CAV. When such a situation arises that
any critical ECUs remain unpatched or not
updated, then the CSBoX will not allow the CAV to
operate because the output of different ECUs can
be affected by the input of one ECU.
REQUIREMENTS
In this section, we identify some important
requirements for the successful implementation
of cybersecurity digital labels for future CAVs.
Policy and Regulations
There should be security labels and particularly
digital labels as proposed in this letter for
CAVs which can inform and guide the CAV consumers
and purchasers about the cybersecurity

level of that CAV so that they can check and compare
the security updates and levels of different
CAVs and can take more informed decisions.
Moreover, developing effective and appropriate
policies and regulations for the security labels of
CAVs is also essential for all CAV manufacturing
countries and companies since the labels and
standards are the cornerstone of any country's
portfolio of security policies and programs. However,
these regulations require considerable
financial and managerial resources. Thus, policy
makers and governments should strongly support
the introduction of security labels on CAVs
and testing labs, particularly in establishing
expensive testing facilities, policies, regulations,
and standards should be developed in advance.
There should be comprehensive public awareness
programs by the implementing agencies or
the government with the aim of security label recognition
to consumers.
Compliance of Digital Labels With Local Needs
Security labels will work when the presented
information about security status of CAV is
clearly understood and trusted and if it is
believed to attain a desirable goal such as protecting
the vehicle and its passengers. The effectiveness
of security labels largely depends on an
individuals characteristics such as personal
norms and values toward privacy and security
of CAV and how they perceive the information
