Authentication of Legal Devices at Edge Side

In the previous sections, we have identified that
the authentication of legal devices (HC-IoT) is a
challenging task because these devices are made
by different vendors, which have different operational
requirements. Furthermore, we have also
noticed that the existing authentication schemes,
such as key exchangemodels, and two or three-factor
authentication models are very complex, and
takealot of timein thevalidation and verification
process in real time. Therefore, it is amust-need situation
for the research community to devise new
lightweight authentication schemes for these applications
and address the highlighted challenges
associated with the authentication of legitimate
devices. For this, we advise the research community
to work collectively with the industry stakeholders
to resolve this problem cost effectively.
Edge Side Devices Hardware ! Challenge 5
In HC-IoT applications, most of the devices
are different from each other in terms of vendors,
hardware, operation, etc. Therefore, making
their hardware compatible with each other
for secure interaction/interconnection, communication,
and data transmission is a challenging
task for the people working in this domain. Some
efforts have been made in the past to address
the hardware security problems of edge devices,
but still, they lack manipulate this problem effectively.
Therefore, we would like to acknowledge
the involved stakeholders to think about this
devastating problem and find out a better solution
for its redressal in the future.
FUTURE RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
In this section, we present the challenges that
are faced by HC-IoT applications and suggest a
number of research directions for them.
Challenge 1 ) Solutions
To manage the security concerns of the edge
layer of the network (HC-IoT applications), the
role and importance of AI-enabled techniques
cannot be ignored. Because AI-enabled techniques
have the capability to detect and identify
malicious traffic, authentication requests, hello
packets, and many more. With this, they provide

a secure communication environment for the
interconnected devices to share their accumulated
data in the network. Keeping in view these
facts, we suggest the research community and
industry stakeholders use AI-ML, DL, RL, and TLenabled
techniques at the edge layer of HC-IoT
networks to ensure the foolproof security of
these applications. With the help of this, the
employed devices would be enabled to detect
and differentiate malicious traffic from raw data
at the initial stage and will ensure the processing
of legitimate information in the network.
Challenge 2 ) Solutions
To address the interoperability security challenges
of EEC, the importance of AI-enabled techniques
cannot be ignored, because the existing
machine learning algorithms datasets have shown
remarkable results in establishing smooth operation
and communication among the interconnected
devices in real time. Keeping in view the
scalability and expandability factors of these networks
or applications, we believe that the existing
datasets would not be able to perform very well,
because of the induction of different vendors'
devices in the network. Therefore, we advise the
research community and industry stakeholders to
modify the existing machine learning datasets/
models in a fashion that could be capable of managing
the interoperability concerns among interconnected
devices in the network.
Challenge 3 ) Solutions
To address the anomaly detection issue in
HC-IoT applications at the edge layer, the importance
of AI, ML, DL, RL, and TL techniques can
not be ignored. Because efficiently trained models
would be very useful for detecting anomalies
at the edge layer and improving the communication
infrastructure of an employed healthcare
network. Therefore, we suggest the research
community and industry stakeholders work
together and design new AI, ML, DL, RL, and TLenabled
algorithms, models, and datasets that
would be capable of managing the aforementioned
issue in an efficient way.
