The year 2015 was witness to interesting sessions aimed at young professionals such as "Getting Published in
IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics" and a doctoral workshop. The
former, conducted by the editor-in-chief
of IEEE Transactions on Consumer
Electronics, Simon Sherratt, provided
candid insight into the review and selection mechanism of high-quality articles

for the reputed journal. Publication in a
journal such as IEEE Transactions on
Consumer Electronics is highly coveted
and helps open doors. The doctoral
workshop at ICCE, unlike a conventional workshop, provided an interactive
environment for Ph.D. students to
receive feedback from mentors and
experts on improving their presentations
and style.

The IEEE Young Professionals Committee of the CE Society, chaired by
Carsten Dolar, organized a great social evening for young attendees of the ICCE. An
award-winning dinner buffet at the famous
Green Valley Ranch Resort was the highlight, where the attendees experienced a
relaxed atmosphere in which to mingle and
get to know each other better. Much to the
delight of everyone, a group photo session
was held at the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, which was followed
by a leisurely walk to view the Bellagio
fountains. The young professionals had an
excellent time socializing, and many of
them continue to cherish the friendships
and connections they made at ICCE.
The Young Professionals Committee of
the CE Society is committed to engaging
graduates and early-career professionals
through a range of professional and social
activities. The Young Professionals Committee welcomes the active participation of
young members in the CE Society conferences and encourages participants to
become members of the CE Society to

Developments in Region 9-
South and Central America

he IEEE does not have a very
strong presence in Region 9, and
the Consumer Electronics (CE)
Society is also underrepresented
in this part of the world. Currently, we

have only one Chapter, which is in São
Paulo, Brazil. This Chapter is very
active and will host the International
Symposium on CE (ICSE) in 2016.
This will be the ISCE's 20th birthday,
and we will celebrate this major milestone in the history of the ISCE in a
way only Brazilians can.

We are working with Region 9 Director Norberto M. Lerendegui to establish
three Chapters. The areas identified are
Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. A second
Brazilian Chapter is in the initial stage
and will be located in Manaus. With the
help of Legendegui, we will establish the
other two Chapters.
