name implies, the internetworking of
these local communities. The ability to
reach distant computers was so exciting
that it seemed to be the only purpose of
the connectivity. As a result, to many,
Web access is the Internet.
#APIFirst shifts the emphasis back
to the enabling technologies and peer
connectivity, where connecting to
local devices is as much if not more
important than reaching distant sites.
After all, this concept of locality is
fundamental to system design and

available in machine-translated English-thanks to Google. Second, there are
an awful lot of them, but on the positive
side, the majority, at least in the field that
I was reviewing, have such lengthy and
complex claims that they can be safely
ignored. And finally, next time your

patent attorney circulates an e-mail that
he's got you another patent allowance,
don't just congratulate him-take a look
at the allowed claims.
