These two standards projects are sponsored by the IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee on Transportation
(IEEE SCC42). With the support of
more than 30 IEEE Societies and
councils, IEEE SCC42 leads the coordination of IEEE standardization
activities for technologies related to
transportation, especially in the areas
of connected vehicles, autonomous/
automated vehicles, inter- and intravehicle communications, and other types
of transportation electrification. These
technologies include but are not limited to mobile apps, sensor networks,
and communications that allow
human-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-vehicle,
vehicle-to-infrastructure, vehicle-toplatform, and vehicle-to-everything
exchange of information and data.
Where standardization needs exist,
IEEE SCC42 will develop guides, recommended practices, standards, and
common definitions of terms.
The next face-to-face meeting of the
IEEE SCC42 and IEEE P2040 Working
Groups will be held in conjunction with
the 4th International Conference on
Connected Vehicles and Expo on
19-23 October 2015 in Shenzhen,
China (http://www.iccve.org). The
IEEE CE Society is a technical cosponsor of the conference.

CONSUMER 3-D PRINTING
STANDARD
On 26 March 2015, the IEEE-SA Standards Board approved a new standards
project, which could be one of the first
3-D printing standards in the world:
▼ IEEE P3030-Standard for Consumer
3D Printing: Overview and Architecture.
This standard defines an architectural
framework for consumer 3-D printing,
including descriptions of various
domains (e.g., systems, services, devices, and participants), definitions of
domain abstractions, and identification
of commonalities between different
domains. The architectural framework
for consumer 3-D printing provides a
reference model that defines relationships among various domains and common architecture elements. It also
provides a blueprint for data abstraction,
quality, protection, and safety. This standards project is sponsored by the IEEE
CE Society Standards Committee.

PRIVACY AND SECURITY
STANDARD FOR WEARABLES
On 26 March 2015, the IEEE-SA Standards Board approved a new standards
project in the area of wearables:
▼ IEEE P1912-Standard for Privacy
and Security Architecture for Consumer Wireless Devices.

This standard describes a common communication architecture for diverse wireless communication devices such as, but
not limited to, devices equipped with
near-field communication (NFC), home
area network (HAN), wireless area network (WAN) wireless personal area network (WPAN) technologies, or radio
frequency identification technology
(RFID) considering proximity. The standard specifies approaches for end-user
security through device discovery/recognition, simplification of user authentication, and tracking items/people under
user control/responsibility. It also supports alerting while supporting privacy
through user-controlled sharing of information independently of the underlying
wireless networking technology used by
the devices. This standards project is
sponsored by the IEEE Communications
Society Standards Development Board.
