(IfN-Institute for Communications Technology) he joined BTS
Broadcast Television Systems in Darmstadt, Germany. Between 1989
and 1993, he was Technical Director of Norddeutscher Rundfunk
in Hamburg-one of the major public broadcasters in Germany.
Since 1993, he has been a professor at Technische Universitaet
Braunschweig and managing director of the IfN. Prof. Reimers
was chair of the technical module within the DVB Project from
1993 to 2012 and a board member of Deutsche TV-Plattform (the
German institution coordinating the interests of all organizations
involved in TV) from 1992 to 2012. Since 2012, he has been the
vice president, strategic development and technology transfer of
Technische Universitaet Braunschweig. He is the author of more
than 120 publications, including various textbooks on DVB. Prof.
Reimers has received a significant number of international and
national awards. Recently, Prof. Reimers and the research teams at
IfN invented innovative solutions for the coexistence of broadcast
and wireless broadband such as dynamic broadcast, tower overlay
over LTE-A+ (TOoL+), and redundancy on demand.

Title: "DVB-x2-The Second Generation Broadcast Systems"
Abstract: In this comprehensive presentation, the latest
broadcast standards developed by DVB, such as DVB-S2, DVBT2, DVB-S2, and DVB-S2x, and key algorithms used in these
standards are explained.
Title: "Solutions for the Coexistence of Wireless Broadband
and Terrestrial Broadcast"
Abstract: The author presents three systems developed by
his team at Technische Universitaet Braunschweig (Germany),
which offer solutions for the coexistence and, in fact,
cooperation of wireless broadband and broadcast networks:
dynamic broadcast, tower overlay over LTE-A+ (TOoL+), and
redundancy on demand.
Peter Corcoran
Areas of expertise: home networks,
Internet of Things (IoT), embedded
imaging systems, biometric imaging,
patents, and intellectual property.
Biography
Peter Corcoran has more than 200
technical publications, more than 60 peer reviewed journal
papers, and 100 international peer-reviewed conference papers.
He is a coinventor on more than 200 granted U.S. patents and
35 granted European patents, with more than 100 patents
currently pending. He has been a university professor for 24
years and a member of the CE Society for 20 years. Corcoran
has completed more than 20 funded research projects. He is the
former vice dean of research and graduate studies (seven years) in
the College of Engineering and Informatics at National University
of Ireland, Galway. His research interests include biometrics,
unconstrained face iris; advanced face models for tracking,
determining expression, and emotion; and the IoT, cloud computing
and CE devices. He is the cofounder of several start-up companies,
including FotoNation, which is now the core of the smart-imaging

division of DigitalOptics Corporation Inc. (www.doc.com). He also
serves as an industry consultant and expert witness.
Title: "An Introduction to Intellectual Property for Engineers"
Abstract: An introduction to different aspects of intellectual
property and patents. Useful for those setting up their own
tech business or working in a small start-up and for those in a
larger corporate or academic environment. Dr. Corcoran has a
great deal of practical experience, with more than 250 granted
U.S. patents.
Title: "Computational Imaging in Digital Cameras and
Smartphones"
Abstract: An inside look at how computational imaging has
made its way into cameras and, more recently, smartphones. This
talk will trace the rapid evolution, from red-eye correction to
face tracking and digital beauty. Dr. Corcoran has a somewhat
unique insight as he was one of the original founders of
FotoNation and continues to consult for the company.
Title: "Biometrics-Coming to a Smartphone Near You!"
Abstract: Based on a 2013 "Soapbox" article in IEEE
Consumer Electronics Magazine, this talk will provide some
new insights, including an overview of the challenges to
realize unconstrained iris (eye) acquisition on a smartphone.
Again, the presenter can provide some unique insights from
past research in this field and his current knowledge of the
digital imaging industry.

Joe Decuir

Biography
Joe Decuir was promoted to IEEE
Fellow for pioneering contributions to
video games and personal computers at Atari and Amiga. He
has 28 years of contributions to connectivity standards, from
work at Everex, Microsoft, MCCI, and CSR.
Title: "Bluetooth Reinvented: Bluetooth Low Energy"
Abstract: Bluetooth has been reinvented. Bluetooth 4.0,
also known as "Bluetooth Smart," will enable many new
applications that require a radio that is simple, secure, and
everywhere. Simple: Bluetooth Smart will be easier than
traditional Bluetooth or ZigBee. Secure: Bluetooth Smart
will utilize AES-128 encryption. Everywhere: the current
estimate is that over 2 billion "smart-ready" mobile phones
have been sold to date, working with nearly 10 billion
smart devices.
Title: "Bluetooth Low Energy Meets the Cloud"
Abstract: Bluetooth Low Energy, also known as Bluetooth
Smart, can wirelessly connect sensors that run on coin cells
