IEEE Panel of Editors meeting and
provides an interesting overview of
this year's event. This meeting provides many interesting insights into
the market for scientific and literary
publications and in this article I share
some of them with you. In a similar
vein Narisa Chu, who is the CE society liaison with the RFID Council,
provides a detailed article on the council and its recent meeting. You will
spot several CE Society volunteers
who are now very active in RFID circles-there is always plenty of work
to do if you are willing to volunteer!
Several recent conferences are also featured. The 2015 ISCE was held in Madrid,
Spain, and was a resounding success with
several interesting trips and a packed technical program. A wealth of photos accompany this news article and provide a sense
of the experience to participate in one of
the CE Society's conferences. We also
have some advance information on the
2016 ICCE conference to be held in partnership with the International CES trade
show in early January 2016.

DIrECtIonS
Next there is a report from the Future
Directions Committee-the CE Society
is one of the only IEEE Societies to have
formed an explicit committee aligned
with the IEEE Future Directions initiative. This is the IEEE think-tank that
kick-started Smart-Grid, Cloud-Computing, and more recently, the Internet of
Things as new cross-IEEE initiatives.
Our Future Directions Committee has
also been busy seeing the Safe Advanced
Mobile Power initiative from last year
grow into "IEEE Battery" and run a
global student competition to highlight
engineering projects that contribute to
improved energy efficiency or energy
harvesting for mobile devices. Driven by
our own Tom Coughlin, it is no surprise
that the CE Society Future Directions
Committee is a group with many activities and a good place to go if you want to
get started at with volunteering in IEEE.

IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (DL) program-thanks to Wahab Almuhtadi from
Ottawa for this significant step-up to our
DL listings. The line-up of speakers and
the selection of talks really do look as
impressive as some of the larger IEEE
Societies and we have genuine rock stars
on our list. You have read about some of
them before in our "Champions of CE"

series-now you can invite them to visit
and speak at a local event. Please contact

BOARD AGAIN
(EDITORIAL, THAT IS)
Last issue I wrote about how I was reforming the IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine Editorial Board. I am
happy to say that there was an excellent
response to my call for associate editors and senior editors, and I can now
introduce most of the board to you.
Some names you will recognize, others
you will not, but you will be hearing
more from each of the new board members over the next 24 months. Each one
is committed to developing the existing
magazine and adding new sections and
features as we continue to grow into
2016 and beyond. So welcome, as they
say, to the future of IEEE Consumer
Electronics Magazine.
