the ElectroScience Laboratory research unit, first working
under Dr. Graeme E. Smith and then under Dr. Joel T.
Johnson. The paper submitted to IGARSS 2022 described
the progress of an adaptive cloud profiling radar simulation
project sponsored by NASA's NSTRF18 fellowship program
(see Figure 8).
SECOND PRIZE PAPER RECIPIENT
The second prize was presented to Elisa Sbalchiero,
University of Trento, Italy, for her paper " A Method for
Focusing Raw Simulated Radar Sounder Data. " Elisa
Sbalchiero (Member, IEEE) received her B.Sc. degree in
electronics and telecommunications engineering and
her M.Sc. degree (summa cum laude) in information
and communication engineering from the University of
Trento, Trento, Italy, in 2016 and 2018, respectively. In
2022, she received her Ph.D. degree in information and
communication technologies with a minor in space data
science and technology with the Remote Sensing Laboratory
(RSLab). From 2018 to 2022, she has been a part of
the science teams of the Radar for Icy Moon Exploration
(RIME) and the Subsurface Radar Sounder (SRS) of the
Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) and EnVision missions
of the European Space Agency, respectively. Her research
interests are related to the generation and processing
of radar sounder simulated data for space missions
(see Figure 9).
IEEE MIKIO TAKAGI STUDENT PRIZE
The IEEE Mikio Takagi Student Prize was presented to Narayana
Rao Bhogapurapu, Indian Institute of Technology
Bombay, (IIT Bombay) India, for his paper " Soil Permittivity
Estimation Over Croplands Using PolSAR Data. "
Narayana Rao Bhogapurapu received his B.E. degree in
civil engineering from Andhra University, India, and his
M.Tech degree in remote sensing and geographic information
systems from NIT Warangal, India. He is currently
working toward his Ph.D. degree at the Microwave Remote
Sensing Lab (MRSLab), IIT Bombay, under the guidance of
Prof Y. S. Rao and Prof Avik Bhattacharya from IIT BomDECEMBER

assistant at the Center of Studies in Resources Engineering,
IIT Bombay. His research interests include soil moisture
estimation and crop monitoring using polarimetric
and ground range detected SAR data; forest height
mapping using interferometric SAR data; and large-scale
