education Linda BaiLey Hayden, Professor, Elizabeth City State University GRSS Administrative Committee (AdCom) Member GRSS High-Yield Minority Travel Program T he GRSS Society established the Minority Travel Program (MTP) in 1997 for the purpose of increasing the number of Minority students involved in the activities of the Society. The grant of $12,500.00 provides for minority student travel to the annual IGARSS symposium to give oral or poster presentations of their research as approved by the Technical Program Committee (TPC). IEEE-GRSS is an inclusive society and highly values and promotes ethnic, gender, and technical diversity in its memberships. Kamal Sarabandri, GRSS President The number of students supported each year varies depending upon the number of abstracts approved by the TPC and by the particulars of the conference venue, which determines the airfare, and lodging costs. The 2004 Anchorage Alaska MTP African American and Native American Indian students and mentors are shown in Figure 1. Since its inception, seventy-four (74) students have presented their research findings in IGARSS venues with partial or full support from GRSS MTP. Of those 74 students twenty-three (23) have completed or are currently pursuing a Ph.D. in remote sensing discipline areas. Another 34 have completed or are currently pursuing a master's degree.
