Park for the IGARSS 2023 Opening Night Celebration.
Catch up with old friends and make new connections while
enjoying music and refreshments. Tip: The Opening Night
Celebration is usually a great opportunity to network.

TECHNICAL PROGRAM (MONDAY, 17 JULY TO
FRIDAY, 21 JULY)
Throughout the week, we have a mind-boggling variety of
technical sessions, grouped into 13 regularly recurring themes
and many community-contributed
sessions. These are split
into oral and poster sessions.
Tip: There is no easy way to
figure out which technical sessions
to attend. I recommend
taking a good look at the session
descriptions, and in addition
to attending those on your
specific field of expertise, also
mix it up and visit a few new
sessions. Who knows? You might discover a new passion, meet
future collaborators, or simply learn something new.
EXHIBIT HALL (MONDAY, 17 JULY TO
FRIDAY, 21 JULY)
Don't forget to swing by the IGARSS exhibit hall to meet
the IGARSS sponsors and exhibitors. Tip: Looking to find
the GRSS leadership? Hang around the GRSS booth. The
GRSS booth is ideal if you want to make new connections,
network, or provide feedback on IGARSS and the GRSS.
TIE EVENTS (THROUGHOUT THE WEEK)
For several years, IGARSS has organized its Technology,
Industry, and Education (TIE) events. This year, you can attend
a tutorial on how to query, fetch, analyze, and visualize
geospatial data with Python; make new friends at the
Women in GRSS luncheon; and participate in a CV/resume
writing workshop. Tip: The Women in GRSS luncheon is
open to everyone (but is a paid event).
YOUNG PROFESSIONAL EVENTS
(THROUGHOUT THE WEEK)
For our students, recent graduates, and young professionals
(YPs), IGARSS is organizing a YP mixer where you can join
for an evening of interactive and engaging experiences that
bring together a diverse group of academics, graduate stu8
dents,
YPs, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs. This event
is an ideal way to mix, mingle, network, and make new
connections while you challenge yourself in a trivia contest
and other surprises. Tip: YP events are excellent opportunities
to meet new people (not just YPs) in a casual setting.
STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION (TUESDAY, 19 JULY)
AND 3MT (TO BE DETERMINED)
Don't forget to stop by the Student Paper Competition held on
Tuesday, 18 July. You'll see the final 15-min presentations of
the 10 finalists who are competing for the Mikio Takagi Student
Prize, which will be presented at the IGARSS Night on
Wednesday, 19 July. Also don't miss the Three-Minute Thesis
(3MT) Award where 10 master's and doctoral students describe
their research in just 3 min to a general audience with only
one static slide. The three winners will receive the GRSS Excellence
in Technical Communication Student Prize Awards. Tip:
Thinking of honing your own elevator pitch for your thesis,
project, or startup? Swing by to get some inspiration.
IGARSS NIGHT " SPACE & MAGIC "
(WEDNESDAY, 19 JULY)
Did you know that the Space Shuttle Endeavour traveled
122,883,151 mi around Earth and 12 mi through the streets
of Los Angeles to its current home in the California Science
Center? On Wednesday night, you'll get the unique opportunity
to enjoy locally inspired food and drink while
mingling underneath the Space Shuttle Endeavour and being
entertained by roaming magicians and jazz music. You'll
also get included museum access where you can learn about
local ecosystems and trace the 12-mi journey of Endeavour
through Los Angeles. Tip: This year, the IGARSS Night will
be a standing dinner, so there will be plenty of opportunities
to mix and mingle.
TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT (TO BE DETERMINED)
It is a long-standing IGARSS tradition to organize a friendly
sports tournament, and this year, it is table tennis. IGARSS
will supply the tables, paddles, and the ball; you just have
to show up. Tip: Nothing bonds more than a won (or lost)
sports game. Apart perhaps from fieldwork.
NASA JET PROPULSION LABORATORY TECHNICAL
TOUR (FRIDAY, 21 JULY)
Round out the IGARSS week by securing a spot for a technical
tour at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The
tour is already full, but you can put your name down on the
waiting list. Tip: As a JPLer myself, I highly recommend the
JPL tour. Where else can you visit the center of the universe?
