Settimio Ferlisi (sferlisi@unisa.it) received his Ph.D.
degree in geotechnical engineering at the Consortium
between the Universities of Catania and Palermo, Italy,
in 1998. Since 2011, he has been an associate professor
of geotechnical engineering at the Department of Civil
Engineering of the University of Salerno, Italy, where
he currently teaches courses in geotechnics and foundations, respectively, offered in the master's degree in
building engineering-architecture and in the master's
degree in civil engineering. At the same university, he is
the director of the Laboratory of Geotechnics "Giuseppe
Sorbino" and a member of the Scientific Committee of
the LARAM School, International School for Ph.D. students on Landslide Risk Assessment and Mitigation. He
has published more than 100 articles (24 are published in
peer-reviewed journals), overseen the scientific coordination of a research unit in an Italian project of national relevance, and participated in one European Union-funded
research project.
Giovanni GullĂ (giovanni.gulla@irpi.cnr.it) received
his M.S. degree in civil engineering (geotechnics) from
the University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy, in 1981. Since
1984, he has been a researcher with the Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection, Cosenza, where he
is currently the research director. He is the coordinator
of technical and scientific activities relative to landslide
emergencies as provided by the National Department of
Civil Protection and, as a National Group for Prevention
of Hydrological Hazards (GNDCI) delegate, a member of
working groups and technical and scientific committees.
He is a past member of the Scientific Board of IRPI-CNR.
He is a member of the Associazione Geotecnica Italiana,
International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical
Engineering, and International Society for Rock Mechanics (TC107-ISSMGE). He is the head of the Laboratory of
Geotechnics IRPI-CNR (Cosenza), chief of Operative Unit
2.56 of the GNDCI, and leader of research projects funded
by other institutions.
Dario Peduto (dpeduto@unisa.it) is an associate professor in geotechnics at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Salerno, Italy (DICIV-UNISA). He
teaches the modules Excavations and Retaining Structures,
Geotechnics, Innovative Geotechnical Monitoring, and
Remote Sensing Techniques for Civil Environmental Engineering Application for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students at the
DICIV-UNISA. He has been the supervisor and cosupervisor of more than 30 Ph.D./M.Sc. theses, mostly carried
out in cooperation with foreign universities and research
centers. He is currently responsible for several international
mobility agreements and joint research projects. He has

co-organized and chaired sessions dedicated to landslide
monitoring and risk in several international conferences.
He is a reviewer for several international journals, and he
has published approximately 80 papers in international
journals and international/national conference proceedings. He is a member of the Scientific Committee and the
chair of the Technical Committee of the LARAM School,
International School for Ph.D. students on Landslide Risk
Assessment and Mitigation.
