IEEE GRSS Awards 2018: Call for Nominations

The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS)
website (http://www.grss-ieee.org/about/awards/) has a
folder for the Society's three major awards: the GRSS Distinguished Achievement Award (DAA), the GRSS Outstanding
Service Award (OSA), and the GRSS Education Award (EA).
In that folder are descriptions of each award along with nomination forms. GRSS members are asked to nominate one
candidate for each of these awards using the appropriate form
before 15 November 2017. The nominations will be reviewed
by members of the GRSS Awards Committee who will make
recommendations to the GRSS Administrative Committee
(AdCom); the AdCom will vote to select the winning candidates. Winners will receive their awards at the 2018 IEEE
International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium
(IGARSS) in Valencia, Spain.

GRSS TRANSACTIONS PRIZE PAPER AWARD
Description: A certificate and honorarium (US$3,000) may be
presented for a paper judged to be of exceptional merit published in IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing
during the prior calendar year. If the paper has more than one
author, the honorarium shall be shared.
Nomination form: Transactions Prize Paper Award.

GRSS DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Eligibility: IEEE membership is not required but is recommended.
Description: The GRSS established the DAA to recognize an
individual who has made significant technical contributions
over a sustained period. A plaque and certificate may be presented for the most distinguished contribution to the field of
geoscience and remote sensing.
Nomination form: Distinguished Achievement Award.

GRSS J-STARS PRIZE PAPER AWARD
Description: A certificate and honorarium (US$1,500) may be
presented for a paper judged to be of exceptional merit published in IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing J-STARS during the prior calendar year.
If the paper has more than one author, the honorarium shall be
shared.
Nomination form: J-STARS Prize Paper Award.

GRSS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD
Eligibility: Must be a GRSS member.
Description: The GRSS established the OSA to recognize
an individual who has given outstanding service for the
benefit and advancement of the GRSS. A certificate may
be presented.
Nomination form: Outstanding Service Award.
GRSS EDUCATION AWARD
Eligibility: Must be a member or affiliate member of the
GRSS.
Description: The EA was established to recognize an individual who has made significant educational contributions
in terms of innovation and the extent of overall impact. A
certificate may be presented for recognized contributions
to education in geoscience and/or remote sensing. The
award shall be considered annually but only granted when
an outstanding recipient is identified.
Nomination form: Education Award.
GRSS EARLY CAREER AWARD (ECA)
Description: The ECA is designated to promote, recognize, and
support young scientists and engineers within the GRSS who
have demonstrated outstanding ability and promise for significant contributions in the future. A certificate and US$1,500
honorarium are presented.
Nomination form: GRSS Early Career Award.

GRSS LETTERS PRIZE PAPER AWARD
Description: A certificate and honorarium (US$1,500) may be
presented for a paper judged to be of exceptional merit published in IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters during the
prior calendar year. If the paper has more than one author, the
honorarium shall be shared.
Nomination form: Letters Prize Paper Award.

GRSS SYMPOSIUM PRIZE PAPER AWARD

Description: A certificate and honorarium (US$1,250) may
be presented for a paper judged to be of exceptional merit
presented at the prior year's IGARSS. If the paper has more
than one author, the honorarium shall be shared.

GRSS SYMPOSIUM INTERACTIVE SESSION PRIZE
PAPER AWARD

Description: A certificate and honorarium (US$1,250) may be
presented for an interactive paper judged to be of exceptional
merit presented at the prior year's IGARSS. If the interactive paper has more than one author, the honorarium shall be shared.

GRSS STUDENT PRIZE PAPER AWARD (StPPA)

Description: A maximum of three awards in rank order will
be presented with honoraria of US$1,000, US$750, and
US$500, respectively, along with a corresponding certificate. If there are multiple eligible authors, the honoraria will
be shared. The StPPA will be presented during the awards
ceremony of the IGARSS at which the papers are presented.

GRSS MIKIO TAKAGI STUDENT PRIZE (MTStP)

Description: The first StPPA, see above, is the MTStP. This
prize is designated to recognize a student who has presented
an outstanding paper at the IGARSS.
