of the Machine Intelligence Unit and In-Charge Center
for Soft Computing Research at the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta. The meeting was held on the RIT campus, in conjunction with the Center for Imaging Science
Weekly Seminar Series, and was attended by five IEEE
Members and 48 guests.
28 March 2018: "MX1: A New Multimodal UAS Payload System With High Accuracy GPS and IMU," by
Tim Bauch, engineer in the Digital Imaging and Remote
Sensing Laboratory of the Center for Imaging Science at
RIT. The meeting was held on the RIT campus as part of
the IEEE Joint Chapters Meeting and was attended by
eight IEEE Members and 13 guests.
28 March 2018: "NIST, Hyperspectral Imaging Standards, and Alternative Methods of Sensor Evaluation," by Dr. David W. Allen, National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg,
Maryland. The meeting was held on the RIT campus,
in conjuction with the Center for Imaging Science
Weekly Seminar Series, and was attended by six IEEE
Members and 35 guests.
2 March 2018: "Image Processing: Adapting Keypoint
Matching Across Domains," by Dr. Sophie Voisin, R&D
associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee.
The meeting was held on the RIT campus, in conjunction with the Center for Imaging Science Weekly Seminar Series, and was attended by three IEEE Members and
18 guests.
6 December 2017: "Thermal Infrared Hyperspectral
Imaging: Instrumentation and Applications," by Dr.
Martin Chamberland, vice president and cofounder of

Telops, Quebec City, Canada. The meeting was held on
the RIT campus, in conjuction with the Center for Imaging Science Weekly Seminar Series, and was attended by
11 IEEE Members and 47 guests.
◗ 19-20 October 2017: "2017 STRATUS Workshop," Dr.
Emmett Ientilucci, general workshop chair. This workshop addressed many emerging topics in the field of remote sensing UASs and was attended by 15 IEEE Members and 80 guests.
◗ 18 October 2017: "Candidate Imaging Architectures for
Sustainable Land Imaging," by Dr. Jeff Puschell, principal engineering fellow at Raytheon Space and Airborne
Systems, El Segundo, California. This meeting was held
on the RIT campus, in conjunction with the Center for
Imaging Science Weekly Seminar Series, and was attended by three IEEE Members and 35 guests.
CHAPTER WEBSITE
The Chapter continues to take advantage of the IEEE's Web
Hosting service and tools and maintains a WNY GRSS
Chapter website at http://ewh.ieee.org/r1/rochester/grss. The
site is used primarily to announce upcoming meetings by
providing information about each technical seminar as well
as its location information and directions. Links to area remote sensing organizations and other events are also provided along links to the local IEEE Sections and the IEEE
and GRSS home pages.
2017 ACTIVITIES
As noted previously, the WNY GRSS hosted its second
workshop related to remote sensing and UASs on 19-20
October 2017. The STRATUS 2016 workshop was such an
overwhelming success that we decided to move forward
with an expanded version in 2017. This second iteration included a full day of tutorials given by Labsphere ("UAS Radiometry, Reflectance, and Calibration"; see Figure 1) and
