As you can imagine, an event of this magnitude brings in thousands of microwave technologists from around the globe- including the world's top women microwave engineers-who would otherwise never have a reason to come together like this. Growing up in Hawai'i, it was rare to witness this scale of high-tech k nowledge - sha r i ng Image lIcensed by Ingram PublIshIng A loha and e komo mai! As a Native Hawai'ian woman engineer, it is an honor to welcome you to the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society 2017 International Microwave Symposium (IMS2017) Women in Microwaves (WIM) events in Honolulu, Hawai'i. This year, we are continuing the tradition of past WIM events (FigureĀ 1)-with a little twist in hopes of reaching out to the unique Hawai'ian demographic. With Hawai'i being geographically isolated from the rest of the world, it is definitely a once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity to have this world-renowned technical event hosted in the islands Carolynn "Caro" Kitamura (ims2017.women@ gmail.com) is the IMS2017 Women in Microwaves chair.
