and the tunable frequency range of
the oscillators.
Andreani presented a very good
intuitive discussion of the basic Leeson's equation for phase noise and two
ways to confirm the result. He indicated that there is a third approach
that his group has developed. Andreani is well known for his work on
class-C LC oscillators, which reduce
phase noise. He used one phase-noise
analysis approach to discuss how this
architecture reduces noise.
In the last part of the presentation,
Andreani discussed numerous LC
oscillator architectures, including ones
that include transformers or switched
inductors and a series-LC oscillator
concept which is under development.

SSCS Kansai Chapter Hosts Prof. Edorado Charbon

On 29 December 2017, the IEEE SolidState Circuits Society (SSCS) Kansai
Chapter held a technical seminar at
Kobe University, Hyogo, Japan.
Prof. Edoardo Charbon, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, gave an excellent talk on a
single-photon sensor and quantum
computers. Although the number of
attendees was not large, the discussions following the seminar were very
active, lasting over two hours. All attendees were IEEE members.
