under the second scenario, the transfer function will see a zero and a pole,
in this order, at higher frequencies.
Hence, the transfer-function magnitude will be a monotonically decreasing function of frequency.
The circuit of Figure 4 is known
as the low-dropout (LDO) voltage
regulator simply because VREF and
hence VREG can come very close to
VDD. In fact, VREF and VREG can be as
close to VDD as 0.2V, which may be
a desired overdrive voltage for the
PMOS transistor.

An alternative design to the circuit of Figure 4 is shown in Figure 7,
where we simply replace the PMOS
with an NMOS transistor and swap
the two inputs of the error amplifier. The analysis of this circuit is
similar to that of Figure 4 and is left
here as an exercise for your understanding pleasure.
In summary, an LDO voltage regulator produces a clean power supply
voltage from a noisy one to maintain
the integrity of analog signals and not
deteriorate their SNRs as they pass
