and decoded to provide real-time
data. The miniaturized monitor, de--
monstrated in Figure 11, employs a
lead zirconate-titanate piezo and a
luminescence sensor that consists of
a μLED for optical excitation, a biocompatible O2-sensitive ruthenium
(Ru) luminescent sensor, and an in--
tegrated chip designed in a 65-nm,
low-power CMOS process. The system has been tested in an in vitro
0.18-μm, 5-V CMOS process, excites
the O2-sensing luminescent film
with a blue LED and measures the
resulting current flowing through
a photodiode. Figure 13 shows the
top-level block diagram. The readout IC consists of two power management blocks, an analog FE (AFE),
and an LED driver block. The system
has two identical power management blocks to isolate the power
experiment. The initial results show
promise. A comparison of the proposed O2 monitor and a commercial
O2 probe is given in Figure 12(c).
