The fall 2022 issue of IEEE SolidState
Circuits Magazine, on " Women
in Circuits (WiC), " follows the tradition
of previous issues since 2017,
enabling more exposure to female
leaders through exposition of their
work in circuits and systems on a
variety of important topics or their
personal
life/career experiences.
WiC is also committed to promoting
female leaders and diversity in
the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society
(SSCS) and (co)organizing a variety
of events to serve our communities,
such as mentorship events at different
conferences, including the
International Solid-State Circuits
Conference (ISSCC), the IEEE Symposium
on VLSI Technology and Circuits
(the VLSI Symposium), the IEEE
Custom Integrated Circuits Conference
(CICC), and the IEEE Asian SolidState
Circuits Conference (A-SSCC),
among others. The WiC Committee
would like to encourage more people
to participate in future events.
The following SSCS members were
asked to contribute to this issue.
Marian Verhelst is a full professor
at the MICAS laboratories of KU Leuven
and a research director at Imec.
Her research focuses on embedded
machine learning, hardware
accelerators, hardware-algorithm
co-design, and low-power edge processing.
She is a member of the Technical
Program Committees (TPCs)
of the Design Automation & Test in
Europe Conference, ISSCC, the VLSI
Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/MSSC.2022.3207334

Symposium, and the European SolidState
Circuits Conference, and she
was the chair of tinyML2021 and
TPC cochair of the 2020 IEEE International
Conference on Artificial
Intelligence Circuits and Systems.
Marian is an IEEE SSCS Distinguished
Lecturer, and she was a member of
the Young Academy of Belgium, an
associate editor of IEEE Transactions
on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI)
Systems, IEEE Transactions on Circuits
and Systems-II, and IEEE Journal
of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC), and a
member of the STEM advisory committee
to the Flemish Government.
She received a laureate prize of the
Royal Academy of Belgium in 2016
and the André Mischke YAE Prize for
Science and Policy in 2021.
Vanessa Chen is currently an
assistant professor of electrical
and computer engineering at Carnegie
Mellon University. Her research
interests focus on data conversion
interfaces for machine learning, RF/
analog hardware security, and ubiquitous
sensing and communication
systems. Dr. Chen was a recipient
of the National Science Foundation
CAREER Award in 2019, the Analog
Devices Outstanding Student
Designer Award in 2013, and an
IBM Ph.D. Fellowship in 2012. She
is a TPC member of the VLSI Symposium,
CICC, A-SSCC, and the IEEE/
Association for Computing Machinery
Design Automation Conference.
Ada S.Y. Poon is an associate professor
in the Department of Electrical
Engineering at Stanford University,
Stanford, CA, USA. She was a senior
research scientist at Intel, Santa
Clara, CA, USA, in 2004, and a senior
technical fellow at SiBeam, Fremont,
CA, USA, in 2005. From 2006 to
2007, she was an assistant professor
in the Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign,
IL, USA. Since 2008, she has
been with the Department of Electrical
Engineering at Stanford University.
Her current research interests
include applications of wireless
communication and IC technologies
to biomedicine and health care.
Danielle Griffith is a fellow at Texas
Instruments in Dallas, TX, USA, where
she is responsible for the system architecture
of next-generation low-power
wireless connectivity SoCs. Her current
focus areas are circuits and architectures
for efficient wireless systems,
low-power oscillators, and MEMS circuitry.
She has published a book chapter
and more than 50 papers and holds
20 issued U.S. patents. Danielle has
given numerous conference tutorial
and workshop sessions. She has been
a TPC member for IEEE conferences,
including the Radio Frequency Integrated
Circuits Symposium, ISSCC, and
the VLSI Symposium. She is a senior
Member of IEEE, an associate editor of
JSSC, and a Distinguished Lecturer of
the SSCS. She received her bachelor's
and master's degrees in electrical engineering
from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT).
Yildiz Sinangil has been a lead
designer in the digital circuit group
