Welcome to the Fall 2022 Issue of
IEEE Solid-State Circuits Magazine!

The theme of this fourth issue of the
14th year of the magazine is " Women
in Circuits. " This year's guest editor,
Qun Jane Gu, has invited four contributions
from female leaders in the
IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS).
" Women in Circuits " issues strive to
promote diversity in the SSCS with
the vision to inspire younger readers,
to improve the advancement of
female members, and to increase the
visibility of women within the SSCS.
The topics chosen are diverse, as
detailed in the guest editorial later
in this issue, and include articles on
multicore machine learning processors
by Verhelst et al., RF fingerprint
classification by Chen et al., wearable
wireless EEG recorders for neural
applications by Poon et al., and onpower
consumption trends in wireless
connectivity devices by Griffith.
In addition, Yildiz Sinangil contributed
to our regular " In Step With "
column in the news section of the
magazine. In this column, Yildiz takes
us through her path to becoming an
accomplished IC designer. It is our
hope that this column inspires a new
generation of women to also choose
engineering carriers!
This issue includes the well-received
columns by Behzad Razavi and Chris
Mangelsdorf. Behzad's " The Analog
Mind " column steps through the
design of a mm-wave frequency divider
and is a follow up to his VCO article
published in the summer issue of the
magazine. Chris's " Shop Talk " column

discusses the likely problems that
most designs experience because of
the inaccurate modeling of the ubiquitous
Vdd networks.
The goal of the magazine continues
to be to provide Society news and
information as well as a series of selfcontained
resources to keep SSCS
members up to date with changes in
technology while, at the same time,
providing reviews of circuit design
concepts. This includes contributions
from experts describing the current
state of affairs and the evolution of a
particular IC technology. We will also
continue to feature articles focused
on the contributions of luminaries as
well as solid-state circuit techniques
and directions.
