SSCS PICO Chronicles: News from the Open

The IEEE SSCS PICO Open-Source
Chipathon 2023 has been launched! As
of March 2023, there are currently 12
groups from seven countries (Egypt,
Japan, Colombia, Pakistan, South
Korea, Brazil, and Chile) working on
chip design. The central theme of
this project is " Working Toward the
Lab Bench on a Chip " design. Three
organized international design teams
across 12 groups have teamed up to
realize a loop-back test chip using the
GlobalFoundries 180MCU Open-PDK.
This is a new direction for the open
source community to explore the
possibility of chip design by connecting
open source enthusiasts across
different continents.
The philosophy behind this project
is to maintain an open ecosystem that
allows everyone to appreciate chip design.
Participants do not need to fully
complete the system, but they can design
a number of reusable blocks and
relish this opportunity with teamwork
(Figure 1). The community appreciates
sharing ideas with different engineers
from different continents, all on one
common design platform. For more

VLSI 2023 Symposium
in Kyoto, Japan
The Symposium on VLSI Technology
and Circuits was held in Kyoto,
Japan, in June 2023. As in other parts
of the world, Japan, the host country
of the symposium, is actively

The ceremony for the three " Codea-Chip "
