IEEE Thailand SSCS Chapter Cohosts a Special Lecture
The IEEE SSCS and CASS Thailand
Chapter jointly organized a special
lecture on digital RF and quantum
computers on a chip. The event was
held on the afternoon of 9 January
2023 at Kasetsart University, Bangkok.
The lectures were given by
Prof. Robert Bogdan Staszewski and
Prof. Teerachot Siriburanon from
University College Dublin, Ireland.
There were around 40 participants
from academia and industry who
joined the event.
The event started with a lecture
titled " Digital RF: Discrete-Time RX,
Digital PA, and ADPLL " by Staszewski
(Figure 1). He gave an overview of
recent advancements in the areas of
RF circuits, such as a frequency synthesizer,
a digital transmitter, and an
RX using all-digital techniques. His
presentation emphasized the challenges
when designing such circuits.
The second ta lk, given by
Teerachot, was titled " Low-Jitter mmWave
Frequency Generation Techniques "
(Figure 2). He discussed the
phase noise requirement of RF/mmwave
local oscillators for high-speed
wireless communication. Various
state-of-the-art low-jitter PLL techniques
were introduced along with
recent work using the charge-sharing
locking technique for mm-wave
frequency generation. Lastly, an
emerging type of all-digital phaselocked
loop in an oversampling
architecture for mm-wave frequency
synthesis was discussed.
