Deyasi, associate professor in the
Department of Electronics and Communication
Engineering at the RCC
Institute of Information Technology,
Kolkata, India, was the judge
for the final presentations. Two theses
were awarded, as decided by the
judge. The first prize was awarded
to Sandeep Roy of the MCKV Institute
of Engineering, and the second prize
was awarded to Avishek Bhattacharjee
of Hooghly Engineering and
Technology College.
The SSCS Kolkata Chapter and the
Department of Electronics and Communication
Engineering, MCKV Institute
of Engineering jointly organized a oneday
workshop, titled " Circuit Design
Using LTSPICE, " on 31 July 2023 (Figure
2). The event was specially designed
to introduce the LTSPICE software to students,
including its applications in circuit
design. LTSPICE is a high-performance
SPICE simulation software, schematic

capture software, and waveform viewer
with enhancements and models for easing
the simulation of analog and digital
circuits. This circuit design tool is
web based or downloadable but always
free to use. The focus area of the workshop
was the application of LTSPICE
in analog and digital electronics circuit
design. Hands-on sessions were conducted
to implement different analog
and digital circuits using the LTSPICE
software in two technical sessions.
Participation certificates were awarded
to the participants.

Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Boon Siew Ooi
The IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society
(SSCS) University of Science and
Technology of China (USTC) Student
Branch Chapter organized a talk
on 30 June 2023 by Prof. Boon Siew
Ooi of the Electrical and Computer
Engineering Program at the King
Abdullah University of Science and
Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia.
The lecture was held at the USTC
west-campus activity center seminar
room, with the assistance of Prof.
Haiding Sun.
Ooi is the director of the Photonics
Laboratory and a professor of electrical
and computer engineering at
KAUST (Figure 1). His research interests
include high-speed optoelectronics,
optical sensors, and communications.
He has received the following
