Bangalore Joint Chapter of the IEEE
Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS)
and IEEE Photonics Society held a
career guidance session for undergraduate
students in April. The event
was organized by a newly elected
core member team: Adrika Mohanty
(chair), Aakarsh Vinay (vice-chair),
Devesh Bhaskaran (media and technical
head), and Babu B. Deepti
Shanbhag (design head).
This joint Chapter has mentors
from both the IEEE Solid-State CirDigital
Object Identifier 10.1109/MSSC.2023.3315948

Photonics Society. The mentors are
Dr. Shashidhar Tantry, Dr. Gajanan,
Dr. Annapoorna D, and Prof. Shreyus.
During the event, the mentors
talked about the importance of the
solid-state and photonics domains
being together [Figure 1(a) and (b)]
They also emphasized that undergraduate
students take solid-state circuits/
photonics as future research work and
as career goals.
The guest speaker for the event
was Shashank M Rao, a graduate of
the PES Institute of Technology. The
speaker emphasized higher studies
and research work rather than going

for job opportunities. He also stressed
pursuing quality project works in
undergraduate studies, which may
become a stepping-stone for both
higher studies and job offers.
Participants had queries related
to the job interview process and
written test patterns for the job.
Others had queries related to choosing
a research topic and program and
choosing a university for graduate
and research programs. During the
question-and-answer hour, emphasis
was also given to participants on
the importance of choosing a geographic
location for higher studies
and selecting the proper guides for
