Evening Panels
Two lively panels took place concurrently
on Tuesday evening. One
tackled the question of scalability
and sustainability of the IC industry
in the next 25 years. Tomonari
Yamamoto from TEL moderated a
panel from across industry and R&D
organizations to offer their
insights and thoughts on
how we can overcome the
limits of scaling in physics,
manufacturability,
economy, energy in chip
operation, energy in
manufacturing, greenhouse
gas emissions
in manufacturing, and engineering
resources. Another panel focused
on whether universities can help
to revitalize the IC design industry.
Asad Abidi from UCLA moderated a
panel of distinguished guests from
across the industry and academia
to offer their valuable insights and
explore this important topic.

Symposium Awards
The Test of Time Award was presented
for the third time in the VLSI
Symposium history. Established in
2021, this award recognizes seminal
symposium contributions published
at least a decade ago that have earned
historical significance. This year's
very deserving recipients were D. J.
Frank et al. from IBM for their paper
" Monte Carlo Modeling of Threshold
Special Events
The VLSI Symposium continues to
offer a well-attended mentoring event
hosted by IEEE Women in Engineering
and Young Professionals, sponsored
by the IEEE Electron Devices Society
(EDS) and the IEEE Solid-State Circuits
Society (SSCS). In addition, the Society
groups Women in Circuits and
Women in Electron Devices hosted
a luncheon panel to address " How
Does Diversity Impact Productivity
in Your Organization? "

Celebration of Contributions
and Friendships
The social highlight of the symposium
was the memorable Wednesday
evening banquet (Figure 15).
There were plenty of reasons to
celebrate-tremendous progress in
our industry, all-time record attendance
after 43 years, a second year
offering a hybrid format, plenty of
high-quality online content, and of
course, the in-person experience
back in the historical city of Kyoto
to reconnect with old friends and
start new friendships. Heartfelt
thanks to the many SSCS/EDS organizers,
the Symposium Secretariat,
and the committee member family
who all worked tirelessly to make
the symposium a true success! The
VLSI Symposium returns to beautiful
Honolulu, Hawaii, on 16-20 June
