IEEE SSCS Lille Student Branch Distinguished Lecturer
On 12 January 2023, the IEEE Lille Student
Branch was pleased to receive
Carolina Mora Lopez, Interuniversity
Microelectronics Center (IMEC), Leuven,
Belgium, for a presentation, " Circuits and
Technologies for Implantable Biomedical
Devices, " in the context of the IEEE
Solid-State Circuits Society Distinguished
Lecturer Program. The conference took
place at the Higher Institute for Electronics
and Digital Training, Lille, France, with
20 in-person attendees and eight watching
on a parallel YouTube stream. The 1-h
Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/MSSC.2023.3269336
Date of current version: 22 June 2023
presentation was followed by more than
1 h of exchange between Lopez and the
audience, and the visit was concluded
by a more informal talk around coffee
with a few attendees.
We were interested to welcome
Lopez for three main reasons:
1) IMEC is the most prestigious European
lab in the domain and
situated not far from Lille (150 km).
In the future, we would like to
tighten the links between IEEE
initiatives in Lille and Leuven.
2) Lopez's research theme (neural
probes and IC design) is related
to research work in Lille, at the
Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics,
and Nanotechnology,
University of Lille (neural interfaces);
local companies (artificial
retinas); and the university hospital
(neurology research). Her
talk was an opportunity for local
Ph.D. students to discover and
discuss her work.
3) We invited, in April 2022, another
researcher (Michela Chiappalone,
University of Genoa) working on
related topics, and we would like
to continue this theme.
